He took a knee only when Froch was leaning on him or or holding his head down. There weren't even any punches being exchanged (unless you count Froch rabbit punching him repeatedly). My guess is he was either hoping to draw a warning or a foul from Froch for using his forearm or holding him down, or trying to avoid expending energy fighting against Froch's weight just to stay upright while being held. The kid also clearly has some balance issues, but he was never anywhere close to going down from a punch so I'm not sure how you can say he was scared. He was the one who initiated most of the action in the last 3 rounds, when Froch is supposed to be strongest, and he got the better of Froch when they traded.

Once again people are penalized Dirrell for not wanting to stand flat footed and trade with a guy whose only two assets are his chin and his respectable power. Dirrell fought a mostly smart fight and he didn't win because it was an ugly smart fight and he looked sloppy in the middle rounds. Never mind that Froch fought ugly as well, did absolutely nothing to prove he deserved the belt he holds, and despite being a "power" puncher landed nothing that had Dirrell in trouble and lost two if not all three of the championship rounds when Dirrell was willing to trade.

Shitty fight, shitty decision, and I'll be glad to see Froch properly outclassed by Kessler. Dirrell has a lot of maturing to do as a boxer but he's on his way up. Froch is on his way down.

A) He was backing up because thats how he fights, counter punching.
B) Some people bleed when simply tapped on the nose, others can get hit with full force and a drop of blood doesnt come out. Taylor dropped Froch and whooped his ass for 3/4 of the fight and Froch didnt look beat up afterwards either
C) Direll staggered Froch twice. Froch never once hurt Dirrel

Froch landed pletora of jabs and each of those jabs would make Direll retreat or fall to the ground in hopes of referee calling it a slip.
