Dirrel surprised me...more thoughts..

I agree with pretty much everything you said there..

 

I don't understand Dirrell's gameplan. I don't understand how he could resonably expect to get a decision against a reigning champion away from home fighting like that.

 

Dirrell was the better fighter on the night.. thats enough to take the W.. regardless of Froch being a Champion in his back yard..

 

Again Froch stayed in the mix pretty much the whole time with a guy who had far superior speed and athleticism, somehow, once again, remarkably, and nobody seems to appreciate it. That Froch is a tough, determined, SOB.

Dirrell did some amazing ****, no question. Beautiful stuff, but not as much will as the guy who won.

 

We're talking about reality, not idealism.

Whether or not you personally scored the fight for him, history proves that the style Dirrell fought last night in the situation he was in, is not a winning formula. His corner knew it, that's why they told him he needed a ko at the end.

 

I was really off-put by Dirrell. He runs a bit too much. It like he throws his hands out high, and then moves away really fast in long strides;a matter that suggests he really doesn't want to fight. When you see stuff like that it gives the impression that he is not in control of the fight. Now, if he would back away using a jab, or just back away slightly, it would make him look like more of a ring general.
Froch was not all that impressive either. It was a close fight, I thought Froch deserved the win (especailly when you take the point deduction into account). Overall, I did not enjoy this fight too much.

Now, Arthur Abraham is totally bad ass! In his usual manner he took about 4 or 5 rounds to get going, but when he turns it on, Taylor had nothing. And that KO coming with seconds left in the fight... that was quite a spectacle. It's amazing, Abraham looks so easy to figure out, but he keeps on blasting people out of there.
I did fell a little bit bad for JT. (Especially after he used my favorite, MJ as an entrance tune) He almost managed to escape the fight with a little bit of his rep still left. But then he gets KOed. I'm afraid he's finished.

 

He suprised me too,,, however he didnt do enough for the decision.
If he'd been more aggressive in the middle rounds I think he could of taken it without any doubt. Fair enough he was having a look at Froch in the opening 3-4 rounds but I think Dirrel and his corners inexperienced showed as they left it far too late to engage with Froch ie rds 11-12,, but when they did finally decide to engage they had success and were coming out on top..
I think they were very naive to think they could run/pot shot/counter for 10 rounds then try and nick it at the end especially as the challenger fighting away from home.
For anyone to call this a robbery is ridiculous :nonothis was close but no robbery, Dirrel just came up short IMO. I think the challenger must win comprehensively to get the nod in this situation and Dirrels negative tactics wouldnt have swayed the judges much either.
Dirrels an excellent prospect and a far superior boxer than Froch and had the right tactics been deployed he would have won this handily IMO,, unfortunately for him inexperience showed which was predicted by many Froch fans as one of his many potential downfalls,, but for me this is the only thing that stopped him from winning the fight quite easily

I agree with what's been said about both Froch and Dirrell having confusing gameplans. I wonder if they maybe took eachother a bit lightly in the lead up to the fight? Watching one of the pre-match interviews, I was surprised to hear Carl Froch admit he had never watched a Dirrell fight the whole way through. Certainly, it looked a bit to me like he hadn't really factored into his plan just how quick Dirrell was.

I thought it was just a bit of an odd fight. Neither of them seemed to adapt particularly well and though I thought they both had their moments, they each seemed to stop short of capitalising on them. I'm not a big Froch fan and I've never watched Dirrell before, so I had no strong feelings about who I wanted to win, but I thought it really could have gone either way. A draw would not have surprised either.

At any rate, I hope the disappointment they both seemed to feel about the course of the fight stirs them into better game planning for the next round - without some tactical improvement, I think both guys will be horribly overmatched vs Kessler and Abraham.

 

That all made sense. Look, you really need to shape up if you want to post on this forum, you need to pick a more extreme viewpoint, use more explanation marks and post random words in CAPITALS!!! Also try to call at least three other posters '******s' in each post.

Seriously, I totally agree with what you said, it was a very disappointing fight and both fighters need to step up on that. Welcome to the forum.

 

Dirrell had a fairly good gameplan for dealing with a short-range power puncher - use speedy punches from a distance, move and counter Froch's charges and tie up when neccesary. Unfortunately he went over the top with it all; went looking to grab and hug when he didn't need to, didn't make the most if his countering which was very good, threw most of his distance punches too stretched out.

Dirrel could have won but I think he showed his lack of experience and gave the fight away by misjudging the mix of his strategy and too much complaining. It's going to be interesting to see if he matures a bit for his next fight.

Froch needs to speed his punches up by holding his hands higher. Several times I'm sure he could have clipped Dirrell a bit more if they hadn't been swinging up from by his waist. He needs to be quicker on his feet too, he was almost plodding in places.

I doubt Froch will ever change as he doesn't seem able to accept that his own weaknesses even exist. If we get Froch/Dirrell 2 later in the tournament I expect Dirrel to have upped his game by then and Froch will be in trouble.

Good post Salty, however I'm going to have to agree with and further qualify Cabblers' comments.

You also have to immediately look down your nose at those you disagree with, tell them they don't know anything about boxing and then demand they stop watching boxing and go watch proffesional knitting.

 

froch won that fight. even gary shaw dirells promoter admitted it! typical shitfest,style clash u people are disgraceful in defeat direll ran like a ***** if they had stood toe to toe froch would have creamed him,kessler has nothing to worry about from either.

 

Dirrell looked excellent with his defence and the last two rounds, but the holding, excessive running, the weak legs syndrome, and not wanting to engage or make Froch pay when he missed cost him the fight. I honestly thought the ref was bias against Dirrell for not taking a point for Froch dirty tactics throughout the fight.
