Ward has alot of tools, much like a jack of many trades - but really at this point - master of none.

If he can hone these skills - better his D, get much better power - I think we have a star in the making.

Becoming a leader in his division is probable, super-stardom is not.

Don´t think he will improve his power much...the lack of power is definetely his biggest weakness, but Calzaghe did well without much power.

    yes he can.

i'm really curious to see how his career plays out. he really could could make some noise in this tourney and beyond, for sure.

i've seen some of kess' fights. i've seen him look good too. but his last couple fights havent impressed me all that much and i really think ward can beat him. if ward starts off w/ a win in this tourney against kess and gets rolling...watch out.

Weightlifting often helps. So of course he can. As long as he doesn't do too much, so he becomes slower.

Calzaghe had good power until he got hand problems. He fixed it by upping his hand speed in stead. Ward has really overrated speed(by some).

But there is a long way for Ward to become a superstar; he has to handle adversity, he can mix it up, but so far, it is not as effective as Calzaghe. Nor would it need to be. He needs experience - good fights, and not get broken in the process - if he is paced too soon(yeah well this tourney he shouldn't think of other than a very good learning experience - and move on).

With the right kind of nursing(not too much, nor too little), good trainers etc etc. He could be very very good..

But there is a long way from raw talent to be elite.

Why ask this right now? After about a month, we'll have a pretty good idea about where Ward stands.

The smarter boxing fans have known for quite some time about Ward. The gratification-now lamen do not have the trained eye to see what those of us who have been around boxing for years see. Some can see talent in the making. Others can't figure it out until the numbers have proven it. Ward haters are simply ignorant and not at all keen boxing fans.

:nut. I agree. All real boxing fans needed to see was the Miranda fight and know 100% that he would beat anybody out there for years to come. If you don't agree, then you are a hater.

I don't know about "superstar", but he might become very good. If he gives Kessler a good fight, and perhaps even wins, then the future looks bright for him.

For one, Ward is totally open for Kesslers straight right. We both know he cant KO Kessler unless its by accumulation. But Kessler has never been down, and he has a very proven chin.

Secondly, Ward is totally inexperienced at this level of boxing, whereas Kessler has been in this situation several times. There is a good chance that Ward will choke.

Thirdly, Kessler has and excellent jab, and has further improved it, as he now sits on his punches. Ward doesn't have a great chin.

Fourth, Kessler has excellent sense of distance, very good ring generalship, and I can't see Ward winning this on the outside.

Fifth, Calzaghe took Kessler out of his comfort zone, and into close quarters at times - a place where Joe really excels. Kessler was more than his match, as he was stronger - and is even more so now.

Sixth, Kessler has a solid defence, and rarely gets hit. Ward has a mediocre one.

You should be glad if Ward lasts 12 rounds. Win it - he can't.

I agree with most...but I do think he is a pretty polished talent already...
I could see him in the final of the super six or maybe even winning it.

Well, I haven't seen what you write until today. And I must say, I really do not give a rats ass about your opinion, as it is quite evident that you are a teenage troll, that know nothing of boxing.

But let me see your analysis of the boxers, or the fight.

As I said im a big fan of Kessler...but his fights after the Calzaghe fight haven´t been up to the standard he had earlier. Not so long ago Kessler stated that he would retire soon...possibly after the super six. Would a fighter in his prime make such a statement ? is his hands causing problems or is it his back ? It was also very worrying the way he got rocked by a hook from Sartison. Kessler was clearly on wobbly feet for a few seconds and almost went down, but he recovered well. Kessler has a big problem with high paced fights I think, but if Kessler can find his old level he has a chance against Ward, but Ward is a great boxer and he has the home advantage. btw. I dont think Ward´s defense is mediocre...its very good and his chin got severely tested againt Miranda...and passed.
