...before people realize he wasn't that good in the first place??:-(

HBO hyped this guy endlessly on the way up. He fought the usual suspects like Grady Brewer, and then shopworn fighters like Raul Marquez and William Joppy

He followed this up with gift decisions against champs Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright, who were both screwed by the power of HBO in their desire to build up their latest poster boy. The only reason the mediocre Taylor was even able to make those fights close enough for HBO's influence to be a factor was that they were both past their best.

After these close calls, they matched him carefully with guys coming up from lower weights like Spinks and Ouma, or very shopworn guys like Jeff Lacy.

But when forced, or induced by money, to take fights with top flight fighters in their prime, and at his weight - like Pavlik, Froch, or Abraham - Taylor LOST.

He is a classic case of a hype getting exposed, and isn't fit to carry the jockstrap of guys like Hopkins or Wright, who he and HBO screwed so badly.

Because Hopkins fights at a very slow pace. Hes over 40 afterall. Taylor just doesnt have the stamina to hang in there with a tough power punching fighter that can apply a lot of pressure. His power falls off a cliff and he becomes a lot easier to hit. He did box well in the beginning, but Abraham kept a lot of pressure on him.

You don't beat HOFer Bernard Hopkins twice and take a draw with Winky Wright if your not a top fighter.

No one said Taylor was amazing, we all knew that after the Pavlik fight.

Most peoples opinions of him is that he is a very good fighter who gases out at the end of a fight.

So you needed him to get KO'd before you could make a correct assessment? I bet you were on the hype train before this.

I agree with Zakman, but Taylor is an okay fighter, and he did pass against AA in my book.

See this is my point, it was clear he wasn't as good as people thought after he got highly disputed verdicts against Hopkins and Wright. Yet the bandwagon continued.

Basically, I think it is criminal the way better fighters like Hopkins and Wright got screwed just to build up HBOs latest hype job, who - as we now can ALL see - wasn't fit to wear their jockstrap.

He is pretty good, but you are right , he is very overrated... but He won ALOT of rounds against Pavlik, Froch and AA ,, even though he got KTFO 3 times....

Taylor is willng to trade with big punchers , he doesn't run... it has led to him getting hurt bad...

But the guy fought a pretty good version of Hopkins and did better than most do... he isn't that bad. But I agree.. has been overrated .

You couldn't wait at least a few days until Taylor is cleared of having permanent brain damage, could you, *******? You had to kick him on the floor.

How many losses do the fighters he got Ko'd by have..............a combined 1 loss

There is no shame in losing to the current WBC middleweight and supermiddleweight champs and a current undefeated supermiddleweight contender and former middleweight champion.

He is a credit to the sport and doesn't deserve to be disrespected by anyone on this forum.

Sure, let's all be fanboys, and never speak out or criticize. Let's hide every questionable thing about every questionable fighter, and just nuthug all day!:patsch

You're completely ruling out the possibility that the first time Pavlik KOed Taylor could have had some very serious lasting effects on him physically.
JT was never even DOWN before Pavlik touched him up - think about it.

link, if you think about it, the combined record (at the time of the fight) of Taylor's opponents is 85(73)-0. that's 85% KO ratio

I'm not saying you can't criticize the man...i'm just saying there's a difference between critique and disprespect. Jermain doesn't deserve disrespect with his performances, especially in his losses...I wish more American fighters had his heart.

The above post is wrong. It's the fighters he's been fighting. TAYLOR SHOULD NOT FIGHT HUGE PUNCHERS WITH BIG STAMINA. This kind of fighter will take him down everytime.
