Good Point. I wish more fighters were willing to take on that type of competition and put their reputations on the line.:good JT is a credit to the sport!!
Agreed. But you can't fight handpicked small guys forever. :-( If he wanted to continue to advance, he HAD to fight the top guys at his weight. What has happen has proven that he is nowhere NEAR the fighter that Hopkins and Wright are! While I wish no ill will on Taylor personally, I hope he recovers well and continues all his life and his career if he wants - I absolutely HATE the way fighters like Hopkins and Wright, who are not popular with the boxing establishment got SCREWED to build this guy's record. It's an injustice that deserves greater outrage!
I would say Taylor matches up poorly against stronger fighters that can outjab him. Pavlik, Abraham, and Froch all found him with their jabs pretty effortlessly even in rounds that he was winning, he simply has no answer for it. Land the jab, bust him up, the big rights will follow soon enough, end of the night. His busy left, fast start mentality, and quick hand counter punching was much more effective against defensive fighters Hopkins and Wright. Taylor's had three very bad match ups that may have ruined him, a talented fighter but not very adaptable.
They selectively matched him prior to the Hopkins and Wright fights, and right after - and got him gifts against Hopkins and Wright - but then he HAD to fight top guys in their prime, and that's when it all came crashing down. Taylor has NEVER convincingly beaten ANY top fighter in their prime. Not one. That's a fact.:yep
Saying Taylor has been exposed is very harsh imo. He has lost fights, yes, but not to no bums & ha always given his all in those losing efforts! I believe, in losing to Abraham, Taylor has lost to the eventual tournament winner! Arthur is so strong, has an underrated defence & always finds a way to win! If Froch was in there Abraham, Carl would be eating huge punches all night long!
Agreed...but, I'm not so sure anyone is going to be able to beat Mikkel Kessler. I feel he's too patient and fights too tall for AA.
Taylor isnt overated and losing to Pavlik and Abraham is hardly getting exposed is it. Taylor is a top 10 fighter just not elite level.
:good. Not many would listen back in the day - I remember that. It was awful to experience. However, things do not seem to change. People eat what they are being fed, instead of using their eyes and head.
Ok... so you got Hopkins Hopkins Winky Wright Pavlik Pavlik and only one fight out of those 5 was a true, decisive and dominant victory over him.... even pavliks second fight with him was close. Ya hes real ****.... Swear to god i dont think some people even know what being a good boxer is. Being good doesnt mean your great. If you get in the top 5 of a division and claim a world title at some point in your career... your a good ****ing fighter. BTW... nobody ever said taylor was gonna be great, it was also that he was a very bright prospect, which he turned into a decent boxer with a dissapointing reign. Not great, hardly bad....
Oh come on...all three fighters had valid arguments concerning all three fights. They were very competitive and tough fights to score. None of those fights were robberies and could've gone either way. JT was competitive in all 3 of those fights. Yes he looked vulnerable, but held his own against two great fighters. I've seen much worse cases of HBO cheerleading.
