in basketball, wether you lose in double OT or get trounced by 30 points, you still get 0 points.

in soccer, wether you lose by 5 goals or lose in penalties you can still lose the world cup final.

]You get 2 points for winning. Dirrell didn't win so he doesn't get any points.

  2. You totally dont understand my point but i agree with what you are saying, concerning a loss.

I'm pretty sure he did understand your point. He was pointing out that it isn't unprecedented that a narrow loss garners no better reward than a blowout in sports. That is mostly where the idea of moral victory comes from, to lessen the impact of a close or crushing (for various reasons) loss.

You could argue that perhaps there could be further punishment for a blowout (-1 points) but I think a crushing defeat like the one Taylor suffered is punishing enough to his chances of advancing in the tournament.

A 1/2 point system is feasible but considering the subjective nature of scoring in boxing anyway it could cause just as many problems as it solves. If the judging always reflected what most people felt happened in the fight then the scoring system would be fine (and Dirrell would have his 2 points in this case*).

    * Although I felt he won the fight I'm not on the 'Biggest Robbery since..' bandwagon.
