Complete overreaction by half the gimps here, I'm only wandering what would prompt a young, promising fighter to take his own life?
Too many people view the question as being muck-raking. From the little I've heard, it seems he was already prone to depression. Whether there were personal or professional reasons for it... who knows? it's an absolute shame that a decent young guy feels like his life is so hopeless that he can't carry on.
It's just that there's still some unresolved issues. There's some sort of disagreement between Maloney and the Sutherland family and I think once that's sorted we'll find out more info. Atm all we have is speculation, nothing more.
Wondered it myself, was a big fan of Darren. Watched the Tony Sutherland interview and made me think even more real hard to watch that.
There's nothing wrong with the question. It's just that there's a stigma about mental illness. However, it's important that people feel free to speak about mental illness, especially since it would increase the chance that such a tragedy would be avoided in future. The answer is: Clinical depression that was not treated appropriately/successfully. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Depression/Pages/Introduction.aspx Depression can be serious. Some form of depression can affect up to 1 in 4 of us at some stage in our lives. It is the third leading cause of death for young people. But there are ways to deal with it. If you think you are depressed, speak to a member of your family or a friend and visit your GP who will help you. Don't suffer in silence. It's not going to get better like that and there is nothing to be ashamed of anyway. Even the great and the good suffer(ed) from depression - Winston Churchill and Darren Sutherland, for example.
This thread is ridiculous. Not because of the OP, but because of some of the reactions to it. "Let the lad rest"? Who has the right to decide when people should and shouldn't speculate? Maybe the fella' who tragically died would WANT the truth to come out?
i agree, lotta drama queens here esp on this post. Theres only a handfull of people here, esp BOXINGS FANS, in particular DARREN SUTHERLAND FANS here intrigued to why a young goodlooking man with a bright future ahead of him takes his own life. Its not like this a sunday newspaper, trying to dig out dirt & skull dugery etc Do you think when they said "shall we do a post mortem on your son mr sutherland?" his dad responded "NO LET HIM REST!" i think too much is being made from this post, man just asked a simple question, if your too distraught or an emotional sensitive type then ignore the post & let it fade away. To the original poster watch The Late Show Interview with the Sutherland family, im sure its on the net or youtube somewhere, for an insight to your curiousity.
Great post, having lost a friend this way not long ago, I'd think this would be the only explanation your gonna get. It's all I got and it really isn't worth racking your brain over, no one knows what was going on in his head really and you might as well put it down to an untreated mental illness.
I've heard so my different reasons why darren would have done this and most of them are probably made up bull****! I don't think people should be speculating and adding to the rumours until the truth comes out! RIP dazzler
not a drama queen at all i worked in mental health for just over sixteen years and have worked with families who have lost relatives in this way and all react differently to a degree .but my personal opinion is do we really need to know, and the truth will find its way out sooner or later
My girlfriend studies psychology, particularly looking at depression and self-image. It's debilitating: people are ashamed to admit they suffer from it, and their families are ashamed to acknowledge it. People say negative things or make out sufferers are drama queens. I think it's clear that, to kill yourself, you must be incredibly unhappy. Maybe he was getting in big debt, maybe he was worried about performing on the big stage, maybe he was finiding his romantic life difficult - maybe he just couldn't cope with the depth of his own feelings. Hagler, you are right. There's a stigma and neither Maloney, nor Sutherland's family, will want his depression out in the open. But people shouldn't be afraid to discuss it and they shouldn't suggest there was something "wrong" with him. He had an illness and one than people wouldn't want to believe could affect someone so promising. Take a quick look at some of the boxers on the current scene: I'm pretty sure Danny Williams suffers from depression, causing his complete swings in mental readiness, I think. Floyd Mayweather seems to have serious insecurities that are part of depression or borderline personality disorder. There are genetic causes, emotional causes and causes we don't understand. But I think it's important that people aren't afraid to understand what it feels like to be so desperate for the pain to go away.
Exactly, ****in hell. From this reaction you'd think the guy had turned up to the Sutherland house demanding answers.
