I saw all the fallout from the fight and decided to judge for myself. I did not watch the full fight until today. I am not rooting for either fighter. From what I read it could go either way and it was close. I read many opinions and I want to know if they are myth or fact. I also want to see for myself. I watched the fight with the volume off and watched carefully without trying to root for either fighter or be swayed by the commentators.
Round one- Not too much landed by either guy. Very much trying to figure out the fight. Dirrell set the pace and controlled the ring on the outside. Neither guy connected much but Dirrell through more.
10-9 Dirrell
Round two- Froch comes out more aggressive. Very aggressive in the first minute. He was not very affective throwing mostly jabs to the body and head not landing much. At the end of the 1st minute Dirrell got in a few jabs of his own. Froch answered with more jabs. Froch missed with a right. Then he missed again with a big left hook. Froch landed a nice double jab. Froch is having a hard time pinning down Dirrell. Neither guy has yet to land with authority or consistently. Froch threw a lot more.
10-9 Froch
Round three- Dirrell comes in fast with a left down the middle and the two tie. Up Dirrell goes on retreat as Froch tries to hunt him down behind a jab. He does not land much but Dirrell has not thrown since. Both fighters show casing straights to the body. The two find most of their connects to the body. Neither landing effectively. Dirrell on the move using the ring effectively. Does not seem like Froch knows how to cut off the ring. Toward the end of the round Froch landed two nice right crosses to the head. Te first of which sent Dirrell into the ropes the second was on the ropes. Dirrell answered with combinations. Froch landed harder and Dirrell landed more. Depends on your style of judging.
10-9 Froch more aggressive, harder lands, close round benefit of doubt goes to the champ
Round four- Most exciting round so far. Dirrell landed some nice lefts in the first minute. He switched and landed a nice combination. Then switched back and landed some nice counter southpaw jabs. Froch landed a nice left hook but for most of the round only hit air and threw almost exclusively a jab. In the closing seconds Froch got in a good right then a decent combo and tied up Dirrell. He used some rough housing. A very good round for Dirrell
10-9 Dirrell
Round five- Dirrell comes out with the momentum from the previous round. He attacks first. He is landing combinations that seem to get Froch’s attention. Froch lands a left hook but it does no damage. Dirrell lands a jab misses a left they tie up and Froch lateral drops him. After getting up from what could only be described as something that should be seen on a high school wrestling mat Dirrell gets up ok and gets back on Froch. I thought a point should have been docked right there because it seemed very intentional even more then the Cotto Clottey throw. Dirrell continues to score with quick straight shots. Froch’s only real answer is his jab. A nice left cross from Dirrell
10-9 Dirrell
Round six- Best round so far. Dirrell hit the canvas three times but none were knockdowns. Both men were throwing combinations. The round was a fight more than a boxing match. Each man got warned for fouls and the two went at it. Dirrell got off some nice combinations early. Froch came in aggressive but not too effective as he got very wild. The two seemed to land even amounts and neither seemed to be hurt. The round was a toss up.
10-9 Froch based on aggression, backing him up and getting the benefit of the doubt being the champion
Midway point- 57- 57 even after round six. No real action in the first four rounds. They were close rounds to score. I am trying to be as objective as possible. It is easy to see how there would be a variation in judging these rounds. There are two toss up rounds on my score. They are the ones that I give a description after the score. I gave Froch the benefit of the doubt for both. After the most action packed rounds five and six it is hard to say who is going to take over in this fight. I have it even. Neither man is hurt or down. Neither man has been able to consistently win rounds or gain a big momentum. The second half should be interesting.
Round seven- Round seven was a little less active then the previous two but it was a good and interesting round. Dirrell started nice landing some nice southpaw lefts. He won the first minute. Midway through Froch came on. There was a lot of holding and several warnings along with one rabbit punch. Some holding wad Dirrell missing and just colliding and having to hold. The rest was just him holding for whatever reason; he does not look hurt or tired. Froch got in some nice shots toward the end of the round that got the crowd enlivened. I do not know who to give the nod to could go either way.
10-9 Dirrell more effective, seemed to fight the round on his terms, Froch did not get too many shots in until the end of the round not enough to sway.
Round eight- Dirrell comes out with a jab. Froch responds with a jab of his own. The first minute and a half are a jabbing match where I thought Dirrell got the better of it. Froch got in a nice rabbit punch. Dirrell lands a nice left hook and cross with 45 seconds to go. Froch then lands four or five power shots.
10-9 Dirrell he won the majority of the round and landed nice Froch landed four or five good ones but Dirrell did not look that hurt but I can see how the real judges could have gave it to Froch.
Round nine- A little less intense of a round. Dirrell was very mobile. Froch stalked well. He connected well to the body and head. Froch climbs back in going into the double digits. Froch seems to have some momentum.
10-9 Froch
Round ten- Very pivotal round in this fight. It is a close fight and all mistakes can change an outcome. Not much happened in the first two minutes. Dirrell gets docked a point. Froch pursues well. Dirrell is running a little more in this round. Froch is coming after him but is very sloppy. None the less he is aggressive, setting the pace, and controlling the ring. Froch starts getting in now with some nice shots in. Dirrell gets in a nice shot at the end a the round and seems to rock Froch momentarily.
10-8 Froch
Round eleven- A lot of firepower in this round. Froch struck first some nice rights. Then Dirrell came back with some good lefts. Froch finished good with some strong rights. Both men had a good round. Both men were rocked at some point in the round. Neither man seemed to win the round.
10-9 Froch he finished better, seemed to hurt Dirrell more, and gets the benefit of the doubt as the champion.
Final round- A strong finish to a good fight. Both men went for it. They knew what was at stake. Both got in some nice shots.
10-9 Dirrell
Froch wins 114-113
Real judges 113-114 (good) 115-112(acceptable) 115-112
Final thought. A damn good fight very interesting to watch. Going in from what I hear I expected a boring fight. Many factors affect the outcome. I can see how either fighter could have got the win.
1. The point deduction was key at least on my card.
2. My toss up rounds I had four three went to Froch because he was champ and should get the benefit. Reverse that Dirrell wins.
3. Froch is the champ usually the champ gets the benefit in a tight one.
4. Hometown.
5. Judge style volume vs power, runner vs stalker
I am not a pro judge, writer, or analyst I tried to be objective. With the volume off the commentators did not convince me many times they frontrunner a fighter or over dramaticize what happened. They get caught in the moment. I watched for what actually happened not suspense or favoritism. Just what I saw and what I saw was close and pretty even. If anything I think Dirrell fought more of the fight he wanted to but still lost anyway.

Dirrell outclassed and outboxed Froch...and theres no way Froch won any of the the last 3 rnds,Dirrell landed more punches in the fight,I felt Dirrell won a "somewhat close" but very clear decision over Froch,Dirrell won that fight NO QUESTION

I gave you the benefit of the doubt until you round 11 analysis. While froch did land, Dirrell connected more and had the cleaner punches and more powerful punches.

I don't see how any impartial observer can give round 11 to Froch.

I shall break this round down exchange by exchange it will be time consuming but I will repeatedly replay this round and score it based on multiple exchanges.

Right now I consider round 11 of Froch - Dirrell a litmus test for fair judging. While Froch did do some work in this round Dirrell outworked him by a mile.

Here goes:

Initially Dirrell connected with a solid jab then missed with a left hook.

Froch then threw a jab that missed

This exchange clearly for Dirrell.

while cornered and slipping all of Froch's punches, Dirrell came up and countered with 2 solid left hooks that backed Froch up.

This exchange clear for Dirrell

Froch threw 3 Jabs that all clearly missed even though they ended up right in front of Dirrell face(They looked like range finder jabs) then Dirrell snapped Froches head back with a solid jab.

Another exchange to Dirrell

Be real:-( Froch then had to back up and initiate a clinch after a left uppercut and left hook connected from Dirrell. Dirrell landed about 3 punches in that exchange to Frochs 0. Unless you count his Clinch as a punch.

Another exchange for Dirrell

after that Dirrell connect with a solid left hood then froch responded with his own solid left hook.

That exchange was even.

Froch Then landed an unanswered jab Then Dirrell threw a left hook that was clearly blocked.

Exchange for Froch.

Dirrel landed a straight right then Froch landed a left hook to the body.
two power punched therefore:

Even exchange.

Dirrell then landed Four solid punches from the southpaw stance. 2 straight lefts and 2 short left hooks. the last left hook clearly stunned Froch even though he went forward immediately after(Great heart)

Exchange in the bag for Dirrell.

Froch then went on to MISS 2 jabs, a straight right and about 5 other power punches because of dirrells footwork and slipping skills.

after that:

Dirrell Missed a straight and Froch countered with a solid left hook then a right hook.

Exchange for Froch

While cornered Dirrel connected with two lefts:

Exchange for Dirrell

Then Jab and left hook to body for Dirrell.

Exchange to Dirrell

Dirrell threw a five punch combination. From it he connect with a right hook to the body and and straight right to the face.

Exchange for Dirrell.

Last seconds Dirrell backs up Froch corners him connects with a right hook to Dirrell's raised glove:nut and then misses with another right hook:shock:.

The crowd goes wild for the glove hook and missed hook.

Tally

Dirrell: 8 exchanges

Froch: 2 exchanges

even: 2 exchanges

For the sake of sanity, whatever your view of the fight please do not score round 11 for Froch. This is the perfect example of inefective aggression.

Tomorrow I will do a punch tally based on jabs and power punches. This was very time consuming.

Thread starter please respond to this post.

God I love fanaticism.

Someone posts their opinion, states they have no real care how it is taken and you've got people getting angry/aggressive that the fight wasn't seen there way.

**** off, leave boxing alone and get a new sport you disrespectful little shits.

Dipshits like you, who challenge another persons scoring and question how they can see something that way, despite judges, media and such seeing it that way too.

Good post...

I too didnt care who won and yet had Froch pulling it out with that point deduction... otherwise pretty even fight, Dirrell could have won but did way too much falling, running, holding and complaining in between his spurts of brilliance. They are there to fight... so fight. I hate when fighters ***** to the ref every 30 seconds...

at least your objective....

OK cool

First: I was neither angry or aggressive in my post.

Second: The guy posted, you don't expect people to respond. That's what forums are for

Third: I am not question the overall fight here(even though I think Dirrell won), I am just questioning the eleventh round which I think is a very clear round for Dirrell. 2 of the 3 judges also saw that round for Dirrell.

Fourth: Even though it was long, did you read my post?
