Honestly, if we are talking about which fighters 168+ are more "physically gifted" then Calzaghe, its a really long list. In recent times, I would say Lewis, Holyfield, Hopkins, Toney, Jones were all superior physically to Calzaghe. Probably Eubank as well.

This thread is asking about his skills...why do you always have to whine about your ****ed up perception of his career?

let's leave this to the experts shall we.

''i knew the first time i saw calzaghe that he really had something, he went in there completely unfazed against chris [eubank] which nobody else had done. eubank was the guy that usually seemed to have control of everything around him but the way calzaghe went in there and manhandled him.

''i was watching in italy, it was the same night england beat italy to qualify for the soccer world cup.

''calzaghe showed and proved power, speed, strength, workrate, stamina, chin, heart and every tangible and intangible that night and that's why i'm not surprised that he's not lost since.

''sometimes it's like watching a welterweight or a junior-middleweight in a super-middleweight's body because he's so nimble and sharp handed. i would never bet against him.''

Sugar ray leonard said very similar things but it wont stop the haters spouting their bile about him constantly:roll:
Stamina wise calzaghe was amazing I dont know of any other fighter who could keep up the workrate he did for every fight he had.
I know some have done it in some of their fights but seriously every single fight he fights at such a high tempo his workrate is unreal.
And lets not forget he never felt any need for using substances
The thing that is so impressive also about his career was the fact that his hands have been so brittle for the last 6 years maybe more and yet he found ways to win and adapt to situations.
Thats what is one of his most impressive attributes.

He seems so damn tough to fight in a ring cause he brings his skills to the table for 36 minutes non stop if needed ! Marvin saw in Calzaghe, his own determination and endless stamina...but in Calzaghe's case, you can add much more speed and quicker feet, which makes it hell in the ring.

There was a post early today from a recent interview with Eubanks. He went down the list of toughest, smartest, fastest, best defense, etc. Eubanks said Calzaghe was the fastest fighter he ever faced.

Calzaghe was one of the most physically gifted I've ever seen. His gifts though not as pleasing to the eye as Roy Jones in his prime, all combined though were just as effective. Somone here once mentioned he was like a great jazz drummer doing a solo. I thought that summed it up pretty well.

Calzaghe never impressed me.he throwed little..pitter pats and resorted to slapping..which was amatuerish.Im a firm believer that regardless of the decision...HOPKINS WHIPPED HIS ASS!

I hate to bring race into this discussion but what does it say when a white guy can claim that he was one of the most physically gifted fighters ever at 168 lbs north?

So far, most people have said names like Tyson, Ali, RJ. Who else is there? I'm talking about hand speed, foot speed, agility, etc.

It's still surprising to see so many people thinking that he doesn't have any special physical gifts. I mean look at the way he bounces around in the ring, moving in and out, side to side. Forget weight class, few people in boxing have his lightness of feet. It's quite amazing.

Without going into too much detail, no. You should be slapped for suggesting such a thing.:hi:
