Thanks for bringing this up, I'm very excited about this fight and haven't thought about it in a while!

 

Gomez is a guy you can force to back straight up whether you have size and reach on him or not (and Jesus certainly does). The inferior Buendia was able to walk him down and puree his face.

Jesus doesn't generally lose to or even struggle with shorter, stubbier guys who themselves aren't very slick. Height, speed, and pure boxing will always kill JSK no matter how much he improves (he has pretty much the same Kryptonite as SSM) - but Alfonso simply doesn't have these characteristics. There's a good chance Karass can stop him as he hits much harder than JuanMa B. and would land just as frequently and cleanly - but Jesus has chronic discipline problems when it comes to buckling down and finishing with control and finesse. I can see a slippery Gomez getting battered into the ropes and/or corner when he gets tired (which will be frequently, beginning a few rounds in) and taking some brutal punishment but barely wriggling his way to an escape from his poundings round after round. Gomez might steal enough rounds to make it close if the total space cadet version of JSK turns up. I'm hoping it's more of the galactic conqueror.

 

I have never seen Soto Karass fight? Probably toutube def before I make a Pick.

 

He's spotty...beware of making judgment based on a single fight (or clips of one) on youtube.

You really need to have watched his progression on Telefutura over the years. Those of us who have pretty much agree he has the raw talent to be like an uber-Margarito and he sometimes shows progression toward fulfilling that promise, but he has some off-nights and mental lapses that make you go atsch

I still think at less than his best he should be able to take care of Gomez, unless he totally shits the bed.

 

cool, thanks for the info. I like Gomez since the contender, but always new he was not at that A-level as a fighter. Still, looks to be a nice undercard for Pac/Cotto!

Well sorry to burst your bubble, but it WILL in fact be on the televised undercard of Pacquiao vs. Cotto.

I know one thing... Neither one of these guys would fight Carlos Molina..

Belonging on Shobox is about the same as belonging on a PPV undercard in reality if not ideally. What fantasy world are you living in where PPV undercard bouts are always at some higher level (like HBO WCB headline worthy)?
