Stanley had the power and strength of a heavyweight, and had the stamina in which he could still knock fighters out in the 32 round. As strong as la motta, tiger and monzon were they wasnt in ketchel's league

What examples of Ketchel's HW strength would you provide to back your argument?

He was a tough, strong man, there's no doubt about that. But of all time, I don't know.

He never tuck a backward step against middleweights or lightheavweights and droped heavyweight champion jack johnson, thats what am going off, every one from that era said he had freakish strength in the clinch's and freakish punching power:hi:

I definitely agree that he is one of the most powerful, but being aggressive is nothing to do with strength and nor is KD power at HW (which I agree he had).

But that strength claim is a big one. Papke certainly matched him on occasion, and on film...so i'd have a problem with that shout.

Ketchell had smashed his hand up, he couldnt even clinch properly it was that bad of a break, but still managed to push papke back. You dont go up from middleweight take out lightheavyweight champion jack o brien, then go up to heavyweight and drop the heavyweight champion jack johnson in the 12th! round unless You have some freakish kind of power, stamina and stength. Why i said he had power and strength of a heavyweight

Well I would say amongst the hardest hitting but probably a level below guys like Tiger and LaMotta in the strength department.

How can anyone know if/when he took backwards steps without having seen the vast majority of his fights?

Besides which, reports do say he was either matched or outmuscled at close quarters at times by Papke and Frank Klaus.

Tiger and la motta didnt go up in weight and fight 12 rounds with there heavyweight champion and drop him, and they were both the same height 5 foot 9 as ketchel just ketchel was stronger and hit harder so he could do it. Also he only knew one way to fight going forward you have got to be strong if you want to do that style against lightheavies and heavyweights which he did

Ketchel was matched by a MW in Papke. No MW ever matched Tiger or LaMotta in this department to my knowledge - in fact Tiger proved himself vastly stronger than monsters like Carter, Fulmer, Giardello.

I don't think Ketchel's having been KO'd by the HW champion is a good reason for ranking him the strongest in this department, especially not with his being matched in his own weight-class.

Jack Johnson man-handled Ketchel so I wouldn't say he had heavyweight strength.

He was a strong, durable and hard-hitting middleweight without a doubt though.

    Hardest hitting give or take.

    Strongest is harder to say.

Read up on acounts of his fights with bigger fighters and you might find the evidence to suport your asertion that he was among the strongest.

It's fun to contemplate what would happen between fighters from different eras. Stanley Ketchel has been said to have tremendous power and did put Jack Johnson down on the seat of his pants for a brief moment; certainly nothing to sneeze at. Could he have clobbered Robinson, Greb,Walker, Monzon, Tiger, Hagler, Hopkins, Roy Jones etc.? We can speculate what might happen. I think that down through the decades fighter's skills have improved with better training techniques, better conditioning methods. Certainly there is more knowledge of nutrition which aids today's athletes. I have my doubts that Ketchel could have defeated very many of the great middleweights that followed him because of the advancement in overall boxing skills as compared to 1910 and before. Give Stanley Ketchel those added bonuses and he very well could have been numero uno power and strength wise.
