That´s the thing. Johnson played with him like with a puppet shoving and lifting him around like a toy. Ketchel was far away from really competing with Johnson. No, I don´t think Ketchel was as strong as a hw - or at least as Johnson. But he was a very srong mw. Mws of his time like Papke and Klaus were able to stand up to him in the strength department, so, I doubt he was he strongest.

Probably not...in my opinion...although I agree he was a hard hitting middleweight. For strongest and hardest hitting middleweight ever, I nominate Bob Fitzsimmons.

Bob Fitzsimmons had delivery that would have made a midwife jealous.

His power was undoubtedly off the charts for a middleweight, but when you factor in his finishing technique, it is hard to say that he hit harder (in pure PSI terms) than Stanley Ketchel or Gerald McClellan

A meeting between Ketchel and Gene Fullmer would have been interesting, and he would have been in over his head ultimately with Monzon of course, and there is also an argument to be made for Alan Minter as being one of the strongest middle champs ever.

Minter??? Sibson was a brute in terms of strength. I would class Minter with him by a long shot. I dont know if Id class Eubank or Benn with Sibson either, in terms of pure phsyical, brute strength.

Watson had astounding strength at SMW, but I think he was maybe a little drawn at MW for this type of company.

I heard a lot about Ketchel from Nat Fleicher, he said Ketchel was a beast and from his competitive career and some film I have seen. Stanely was up there. As far as power, Fitz and far as strength Lamotta as far as a punch at middleweight Stanley was up there but based on his early demise and not too much film its hard to tell but if you look at the record of Greb and Ketchel along with the stories, you know they were great. Hegler and Monzon were strong men as well

I'd say Fitz for power although Ketchel is up there ... no one touches Langford though ..

Why are none of the above posts relative the the strength of Ketchells opponents chins and defence.

OK.. he dropped Jack Johnson for a second.. A long ranged Windmill of a punch that average film quality makes a joke off. Perhaps the actual shot was effective?

Stanley, on film, looks average. Jack Johnson is not a great puncher, or a noted puncher.. He could not combine well enough to stop Tommy Burns..6 inches shorter... Number of punches are what beat Burns.. Jeffries lay down like a fat cow..

What an average bunch of thinkers.

Les Darcy would have wiped the 'Golden' smile from Johnson's grin..

Ketchel would need a prayer, doctor and faith to beat any good modern fighter.

Turpin was strong. I forgot about him. He had been a weight lifter in the British military.

Flamengo you honestly think Darcy beats Johnson?
