Straight away that is like a flame to the blind moths. But, really. Why is an undefeated, world champion, British boxer so utterly loathed on here? It's not as if we have so many that we can afford to **** them away. Least of all one who may well turn out to be a good deal better than we think now. (I know about the "ducking arguments...who was good enough to beat him?...blahhh...time will tell)". I happen to believe that world boxing would have been a much poorer sport if Joe Calzaghe hadn't taken part in it. To listen to some on here, he seems to be regarded as only slightly higher than a worms belly in a wagon rut. And that IS shameful. The man was a fine boxer and should be respected as such. Rant over... enter JC haters......:rofl:rofl:rofl
Exactly. Some people love him Some people detest him No amount of internet debate is going to change their opinions so whats the point?? People will get bored typing the same arguements either way and also reading the other side put to them. Until he makes a return, lets put this to rest
How exactly ? Please explain. Huge fan base - No (piggybacked football fans from Hatton) Great personality which captured the British/American hearts - No Fought in great battles - No Memorable record - No Fought live opponents all the time - No Fit missus ringside - No Stupid TV adverts - YES Basically love them or hate them boxing would have been a lot worse without the likes of Hatton or Hamed. Boxers who are exciting to watch, engage in exciting fights with decent opponents and can bring a personality to the Television screens. Hatton was king on the TV and Joe wasn't.
I think that JC is a much superior boxer to either but I have to agree that his personality is rather grey. It is a shame that to sell tickets to the casual fan you got to have a big mouth, be flash or able to drink 25 pints of lager. I suppose Calzaghe should at least have had a few gold teeth fitted.
Many reasons, that countless threads have discussed in detail. One of the biggest reasons for my disdain towards him is he's an incredibly arrogant individual, is thick as pig **** and is completely devoid of anything even remotely resembling a personality.
Yeah, because the boxing world would have badly missed Calzaghe's epic reign as champion of the WBO, and his megafights with Tocker Pudwill and Rick Thornberry. Calzaghe was a very good boxer, nothing more than that.
