Had a rockie start to his career but went on to become lightheavyweight champion had som classic fights with bobby czysz. What are your thoughts on williams? also is it true a 16 year old roy jones dropped him in sparring?
The first Czyz fight was shown in the UK and Willaims was very impressive. Other than the Sosa fights and Toney (also shown in the UK) I havn't seen anything else of him.
He was good, but I didn't really think he was a true great. His grittiness and resilience often compensated for his limitations.

James Toney's knockout of Williams is one of the best ever. He crumbles like a sand castle. Williams was a tough good solid fighter. Watch this. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF8QkGjzTNo[/ame]
prince charles was a pretty good light heavyweight champion and beat several good fighters yet the only thing i think about when his name is mentioned are those violent bouts he had with merqui sosa.....ridiculous give and take punishment in those fights climaxed by merqui nearly killing him for the stoppage in the second fight...left the ring in the stretcher and everything
Prince Charles was a decent fighter who I saw fight a number of times on such networks as USA cable fights. His rocky start was partially due to his having no management. He acquired some female manager a few years later who's name I don't remember, but she took care of most of his affairs and from there, he began winning more steadily. Around late 1989 -early 1990, the light heavyweight title was fragmented and its holders were Virgil Hill - WBA Jeff Harding - WBC Michael Moorer - WBO Charles Williams - IBF Of the four men mentioned, Charles was viewed by many as the weakest of the group. He was heavily criticized for his opposition, lackluster performances, and spotty record. I once saw him fight against Frankie Swindell and thought that he had reaonable offensive ability. His defense left some things to be desired though. I also cheered for him years later against James Toney when a few of my friends were hanging out and watching the fight on HBO. Of course he ended up losing in the last and final round, but gave a galant effort considering the circumstances.
I think Prince Charles woulda beaten Harding in a war, and probably lost a decision to Hill. Moorer woulda destroyed him.
I probably would have picked Charles by a decision over Harding as well, but at the time, a lot of people viewed Jeff as the better fighter for whatever reason. My guess, is that it was largely due to Williams' inconcistency.
