pbf is better talent-wise but p4p is IMO based on talent+accomplishments in w/c pac is still slightly ahead of him. if pbf wants to be p4p king again, he should do something "more relevant" than beating JMM (no offense to JMM, he is one of the best technical fighters of this era IMO), pbf didnt prove anything that night except that he's not rusty. but as far as p4p ranking goes, the fact that he fought a fighter that usually fights 2 divisions lower doesnt help him much (not to mention the +2 lbs advantage he had). but if he lets say beat shane mosley, then i wouldnt mind seeing him get that top spot again.

:deal Exactly. When i look at the p4p best guy i pick the guy who has all the tools in a boxing manual and then some. Basically the point is how close a fighter can be to unbeatable or perfect. Floyd has no weaknesses. Like i said before he can fight anyway neccesary and rarely takes damage whilst winning. On sheer ability mayweather is clearly p4p1 but ability plus acheivements, pacquiao edges him. If pacquiao beats cotto then that gap grows larger. Bottom line is that mayweather needs to fight WW's and beat them to allow his acheivements to corrolate with his ability.

    Bottomline

Mayweather is the best fighter in the world pound for pound. Pound for pound fighters and champions have to lose before they lose their title. Mayweather took a hiatus and fought arguably the 2nd or 3rd best fighter in the world and won. No one expected more or less out of Marquez than they did of Mayweather who from 1998-2006 constantly moved up and fought other fighters. Pac-Man is a great fighter and is an ATG like mayweather but cant elevate to the top spot unless he fights Mayweather and wins.

Mayweather is the most complete fighter in the world and not too many can dispute that. Skills, defense, footwork, counters, speed, and natural athleticism who combines it better, has a better resume....the answer is clear.....No one you just cant call a fighter pound for pound by default and the pound for pound king hasnt lost a step is still winning and just defeated the nemesis of the number two guy in easy fashion.

try to dispute it, you cant Pac-Man will never be pound for pound until he beats Mayweather. They are at the same weight, their last opponenets were all common opponents its inevitable....and when they fight and Mayweather wins all the excuses will arise like all his last 40 opponents. Numbers dont lie but fans do.

he has beaten more champions than Pac-Man, beaten more current and future hall of famers, and is better in almost every area he is the most complete fighter in the world....love it....or in most you guys case hate it.....it wont change a thing Mayweather is the best and Pac-Man has to prove oit by beating him....otherwise case closed

Here is my arguement. Thread closed. Floyd beating a smaller Pac doesn't define P4P. I'll change my mind once he beats Shane Mosley.

The Yahoo! Sports monthly rankings underwent big changes in
October despite the fact that none of the top-ranked fighters
    were in action.

Manny Pacquiao, who faces Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14 in Las
Vegas in what is expected to be a high-paced bout, supplanted
Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the top spot. Mayweather had a
one-point edge over Pacquiao in September, but Pacquiao
climbed past him by five points in October.

Are you saying PBF should be #1 after his comeback fight with JMM?!

OPEN your eyes to see the real situation during the figth!

a)Sure JMM is the best counter puncher, AGREE! but at what weight can you say that he is the best counter pucher!?

b)JMM was not on his usual weight level category, He moved UP to weight levels. I admire him for that coz you and I know PBF will NEVER do that!

c)There was an agreed catch weight. PBF was 2000GRAMS overweight but did PBF bother loose the said weight. He did NOT even bother. TALKING about professionalism:yep

d)PBF is younger, longer in reach, and taller.

F)they fought at PBF weight category not at JMM weight category which he is at his best.

A million dollar question to pbf fans!?! Why do you celebrate as if the win was done on the basis or level as if you beat JMM on his most comfortable level?!

Even the darnest JMM fans felt it's a miracle to win due to the weight difference. Speaking of weight difference PBF even did not want to be weighed in during the pre-fight?!

Why?! - it will TOTALLY EXPOSE THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE!

yEAH! pbf deserves to be #1 :tired:lol::rofl

Since people are saying that Mayweather has to beat Pacquiao to be number one, and vice versa, would, for example, Jermaine Taylor become "P4P best" if he beat one or both?

Pound for Pound ratings are bull****. Far too much leverage to the lower weight classes.

You know what, these other top welterweights would have made Marquez stop punching after the first round...because they would have knocked the sh1t out of him in the first!

Mayweather this Mayweather that, who are you anyway, Leonard Ellerbe? :rofl

Hey, we live in the real world, not fantasy boxing. If you don't realize that fighters need to prove it in the ring, then go build yourself a fantasy boxing league together with people who think like you do and leave normal people alone :nut

Um, you do realize why the term pound-for-pound was created don't you?

Precisely to give emphasis to the lower-weight fighters who may not be able to compete head-to-head with heavyweights but would have done so had size been leveled.

You forgot to mention that JMM was bloated in that fight, plus he never really was considered a very fast fighter what more being bloated 2 levels up. Add to the fact that he wast able to carry his speed and power to WW. He could have performed better if he had time to get used to the weight, like 1 or 2 fights at WW and not go straight to an elite fighter like PBF. JMM is a great fighter, but beating him in that situation is not a great achievement, a good one nonetheless.
