I am a Machida fan, not a Rua fan, but I had it 4-1 for Rua. Machida will win rematch

Even with this argument, Shogun wins the third round, which is the only round he clearly won anyways. Other than that, Shogun was outlanding him practically every other rounds with kicks to the body and legs. Machida tried to steer clear from them but Rua chased him down and got the lower leg most of the time. He also caught Machida several times coming in.

By the way, those leg and body kicks took a lot out of Machida; thats why he was so gassed and had very little left in the last two rounds.

Rua had very few kicks to the body Machida had equal and he had more knee stikes to the body and head

In a kick boxing match a leg kick is not counted the same as a strike because they are so easy to land why do you think that Chuck, GSp and anderson sylva donot throw a lot of leg kicks answer they do not score as much as kicks and knees to the body and head the leg kicks are designed to slow down mobility so you can score with a punch to head

This isnt kick boxing to be fair. And GSP and Anderson throw their fair share of leg kicks too. I agree that a strike to the head is worth more 'points' but Machida didnt land enough of them to outscore Shoguns leg kicks.
Go rewatch Tito v Machida and tell me that leg kicks dont count, aint seen that fight for a while but Im pretty sure that all Machida did in that fight is faint and arm punch, (with a good knee that dropped Tito granted) if you discount leg kicks

I really didn't care who won. I would have been ok with a Rua decision it was that close however I had Machida ahead because the first three rounds I had him ahead and the third round could have been a 10-8 round Rua could not take him down he did land a few effective elbows in round 4, afew body kicks but Macida landed knees to head and body and more punches to head. rnd one could have been even but I gave it to Machida round two machida won the clinches and blocked takedown attempts and landed repeated knees to body 10-9 round three was clearly Machida round 4 was close but I gave it to Rua he forced his wil more and machida didnt counter as well. round 5 Machida thought he was ahead and coasted

they throw a few but not like that and they throw more inside sweeps to bring opponent off balance Sylva kicks alot to lead legg thigh to stop forward movement (purely defensive) Gsp throws at hips more than anything

Round one was close, but apart from the flurry in the 3rd Machida was reduced to mainly potshotting imo. In the 5th he had nothing left and I think it was Shogun who coasted. Maybe that cost him the fight in the judges eyes

Machida also threw inside foot sweeps twice that got Rua off balance should they score? That is a leg kick. Machida didn't land much of a punch after them like he usually does. However it did set up a punch to the head later.

Machida would not have coasted if he thought that he needed the last round to win Ruas corner may have thought the same which led to his not all out attack but one cannot be to overy aggressive against either of these guys

Of course it scores, its just that Shogun scored more. And I think his punches didnt do damage because he couldnt put weight on his lead leg as usual. Good gameplan by Shogun

I think Machida was obviously gassed, but you can call it coasting if you want

Machida didn't show he's sharpness he normally has , was a very close fight with both fighters having there moments but no dominating performance . Thought Rua was gonner take the win but at the end of the day to beat the champ you gotta look dominating and although Rua landed more shots on Machida then anyone else thats not enough. the rematch someone is getting ktfo

This fight was a feeling out process for 5 rounds. I cant wait for the rematch because theres going to be fireworks.

Ive rewatched the fight 3 times and I cannot get swayed. I still give the first three rounds to Machida. The triple knees to Shoguns abdomen clearly swayed it to me for round one. As for round three, that exchange sealed it for Lyoto on an otherwise barely Rua's round.
