Is David Haye Good or Bad for boxing??

The question can only be answered after the Valuev fight. Should he lose he becomes a joke and that certainly would not be good for boxing.

 

He can be good for boxing if he wins fights and keeps busy. You can talk if you win and are active. Floyd does and he brings in PPV viewers. People hate him and want to see him lose. Haye IMO is trying to imitate that.

If he keeps talking and then gets KTFO by some WBA challenger he can be quite bad for boxing: another exposed loudmouth who promised he'd rescue the HW division and restore the legacy of Ali, Dempsey and Marciano.

Let's see how he does over his next three fights. Just talk? Or some substance? The jury is still out on Haye.

 

Look it up yourself, my friend. I've watched several of his fights from Germany and heard commentators describe half-empty houses and tickets that were given away for free. I have never heard anything like that, ever, for a Klitschko fight.

 

Yep. After he wasted an entire year of his prime talking crap, faking injuries and pulling out of negotiations.

His antics are doing what he wants them to-making people talk about him and his fights. They're fine.

 

Getting a bit defensive, are we? The problem, old chap, is that he was offered the keys to the kingdom, i.e., two fights with the Klitschkos...fights that he said he wanted. Fights that, if he had won them, would have made him the biggest heavyweight since Lennox Lewis. And guess what, he wimped out...twice. Really, there is no defense here for Haye fans, so stop trying. He was handed a shot at imortality twice, and he faked and injury and then pulled out of a fight with Vitali to fight the Caveman...probably the worst title holder in about 20 years.

 

Well Floyd hasn't been very active either recently up until the Marquez fight and I'd say if people hate Haye and only watch him hoping he'll get KTFO'd then even if he does it'll still bring more fans to boxing.

But my main point is I'm not surprised by his recent inactivity. He said staright after his fight with Enzo that it would take a while to gain weight without loosing speed and that people shouldn't expect him to fight much for a while. If Setanta hadn't went bust or his back hadn't got injured, whichever was the main reason for pulling out the Wlad fight he would have been back sooner but the fact he'd been pretty inactive for a while before that was to be expected.

Are you daft, or just stupid? He's fighting Valuev because he is one of the worst title holders in recent memory. The guy was beat up by a 46-year old washed up Holyfield. He is currently ranked 7th at heavyweight by Ring magazine and Fight News, which means that there are 4 contenders: Chambers, Chagaev, Povetkin, and Arreoloa, that boxing expert think can beat him...which means that if Haye happens to win this fight, he'll be the number 7 ranked heavy in the world. That's how little people think of Valuev, that Haye is actually favored in this fight. Early odds had him as a 3 to one underdog against Wlad and a 5 to 1 underdog against Vitali. So, shut your trap and use your head. Haye is fighting for a an easy title that he can bring back to the UK to prop up his failing fight company. It's a business decision, pure and simple. He will never, I repeat, never fight a Klitschko.

 

Just one loss in the next three fights and he can forget about retiring (rich) at 31. He'll want to net a minimum of 10-15 million GBP. He won't get much against Valuev given that he's a voluntary challenger. If he wins, he will have to split the purse with Ruiz since he's a mandatory challenger.

So (speculating here of course) only after Ruiz he can start making the purses he was dreaming of. From Spring/Summer 2010 on. If he beats Valuev and Ruiz.

i think he is a bit of both good and bad.

 

Good - he has no Chin and has some power so that usually makes for exciting fights

Bad - he never fights is too inactive pulls out of fights with fake injuries and handpicks fights. Too much talk and not enough fighting.

 

It was your claim, I merely asked for the information in your possession. As it happens, I did have a bit of a dig around and the information doesn't seem to be as readily available as you believe. That's probably just my computer illiteracy though, right? On the other hand, one would have thought that the purpose of this forum was for the exchange of information.

My conclusion is that you either (a) are a bit of a twat or (b) have been caught out making a claim that you actually don't have a factual basis for.

Love those grand English expression like twat and ****. They really are superio to American pejorative like *******, **** or dick. Nonetheless, as you might expect, the first information I discovered was about Valuev's showcase fight in in NYC against Barrett....it was an unmitigated disaster, which is probably why he's never been on HBO or any other US cable network again. They sold fewer than half the seat and many of those were simply given away be Don King. As for Europe, the fight in ZUrich against Holyfield was only a bit more than half full, according to Sports Illustrated. They also scored the fight 118-110 for Holyfield.
