For Manny - he deserves credit for beating a much bigger, stronger man near his prime and taking a serious risk to do so. Whatever people believe, Manny is up against it this time.

For Miguel - fighting a guy with the speed and movement to cause him problems, who also happens to be the best fighter in the world today, alongside Floyd Mayweather.

Either way, they both deserve credit.

PACdBEst was almost crucified just mentioning the possibility of Pac fighting Cotto. Now that fight is in our midst and you will deny Pac the credit he deserves?

Bookie odds are based on betting patterns that are based largely on popularity and ill-informed casual fanbase percepetions. Relating that to "credit for a win" is simply throwing informed opinion or analysis out the windown.

If you can't give a fighter solid credit for taking on one of his toughest options out there against a proven opponent, you simply have no objectivity. Besides, you can't credit a performance until you've seen it - Pac gets huge credit for taking the DLH fight, but you can only give him so much when it comes to who he ended up beating.

Equal props for taking the fight; performance still to come.

Less for Cotto winning. Pac shouldn't share the ring with him. People are in for a big surprise and they are going to blame it on a bad camp.

Tell me, how long has Floyd been a WW for? How many years has people been calling for Cotto-PBF for?

Then why in the **** is a FW champion just last year fighting Cotto first before PBF???

    :deal

Depends on how they win. I'll give them about equal credit. I think naturally Cotto should get more credit than Pac if anything since he is clearly at least the slight underdog.

I give Cotto more credit because honestly while i prefer that he win i have the feeling that pac will. Though both get great credit.

It depends, of course, on how they perform. Pacquiao's punch resistance (among other things) hasn't been rigorously tested above 135, with his last fight ending quickly and the DLH fight being a pretty shoddy yardstick. If it turns out that it just isn't there, and Cotto blows him away with the first body shot he lands, then that won't get much credit. If, on the other hand, both guys fight the fight of their lives, Pacquiao looking powerful and fast at the weight and Cotto showing no signs of wear and tear, then the winner will get massive props. Overall, though, I think the expectation should be on Cotto to win, and I wouldn't give him enormous credit unless he shows more than just the superior strength we all know he has, e.g. by outboxing Pacquiao to a decision or something. A victory for Pacquiao against a good verison of Cotto should mark him out as the undisputed P4P champ and a really top-notch ATG, imo.

I think things sort of even out even though there are a few unknown factors, but aren't there in any fight?

Pac is smaller and has not really been hit at all above 130 but Cotto has been through the Maragrito fight and is dropping 2 pounds. Pac's power seems to have carried well though. I think he must have been cutting a lot of weight to make 130 for a while.

I think everything kind of evens out. I know things may not seem so even after we see the fight, but I still believe both should get equal credit, no matter who wins!
