QUENSLAND’S leading boxing promoter Jamie Myer stages another night of first class boxing at the Gold Coast Convention Center on Friday night November 27, 2009. The main event, scheduled for 12 rounds, pits two of Australia’s world rated super midddleweights Shannan Taylor and Les Sherrington batle for the WBF World Title. Veteran Taylor (49 – 7 – 3, 35 ko’s), a perenial top ten contender is a two time WBF world champion and is hungry not only to win a third world championship but to reignite his career after pushing Anthony Mundine twelve rounds in February. Taylor, 36, comes into the fight ranked number 12 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and has fought the very best fighters in the world over the past fifteen years, having knocked out six world champions! 27 year old Sherrington (24 – 5, 15 ko’s) the new Toast of the Gold Coast, is ranked 15 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and currently holds the Pan Asian Boxing Association Title. He is riding a 5 fight win streak since a loss for this same title in South Africa 18 months ago and recently accounted for Taylor protege Joel Burke, winning a unanimous verdict in Townsville. In exciting inder card bouts, World number 14 heavyweight Alex Leapai rematches Japan’s Masataka Takehara who held the big punching Leapai to a draw in July. Tweed welterweight prospect Casey Hannan steps up in weight and class when he takes on national number 5 middleweight Chris Stewart, Australian number 6 light heavyweight Trevor Jacky meets Brisbane’s Emilio Smith and Queensland light middleweight champion and ex state light middleweight champion Matt Burns faces current champion Andrew Gosden. Local super welter Nick Svidas goes at it against veteran George Livaditas and former NBL star John Szigeti returns against NSW’s nationally rated Steve Capppiara. 2006 Comonwealth Games Heavyweight Gold Medallist Brad “Hollywood” Pitt also apears in his second professional outing with the show opener seeing former amateur stand outs Rob Coorey and Billy Stewart making the professional debuts in a welterweight bout.
