Do you think that Haye hits any harder than the average HW?

It's something that's been worrying me since the Barrett fight, he didn't look as though he had the lethal power we expect of him.

Do you think he has carried his power up? Or is he now a fighter that relies on a punch that is nothing special?

He never caught Monte clean but still knocked him down what 5 times? If he connects at the speed he can through then he is still a massive puncher!!!

Maybe he was just too eager to please, and all will be well against Valuev.

he has a 1st & 5th round KO up at heavyweight, seems just as powerful to me, altho its obviously going to be harder to drop the bigger guys at the weight...

Hayes power was off the chart at Crusier the only 2 guys to stand up to him were thompson who could sure take a shot and the guy he went 12 with just to prove he could... Haye wont be the biggest puncher at heavy but he can still bang and hurt probably most heavys with the exception of VK and Valuev - all though people like Nobles hurt VK and he has been rocked more times than his promoters might like you to think so i could be wrong with the last one - tuff call

Bottom line haye's power at heavy will be fine - its weather he has the other skills to keep him out of danger that will be the line between success and failure

Thats the concern. Without the power he has very little chance at HW as I don't think he has the chin or stamina to compete with the decent guys.

Hayes power will be irrelevant in this fight, he's not going for the knockout.

I've often said it before that the sweet spot for human mechanics produces the best power puncers in the 180-220lb bracket. Almost all the great HW punchers in history have been there or there abouts. Above that force might well increase but things start slowing down a bit so punches are not as concussive as they might be expected to be.

Tyson, Foreman, Shavers, Louis, Marciano and just about every other atg HW puncher with only a few exceptions are all sub 220.

Haye is a natural big puncher. Guys like him are born not trained. He'll carry that punch up no question at all but will of course be fighting more durable guys mmost likely so that will most likely take the edge off it, but if he gets a shot right there are probably only a half dozen or so guys that wouldnt get sparked in the HW ranks VK and Valuev being 2 of the most likely candidates for being able to handle it.

I've watched him training on the vids and everything he's doing looks to be quick, lots of movement. Switching southpaw etc. They want to jab and move and change angles. It might work early. Late on its going to be a struggle.

He had unreal power at CW, like, concussive dynamite in both hands. Given that it's obviously a natural gift he'll certainly carry it up to HW, it's just a case of how his new opponents react to it.

IMO, even the likes of a Tua or Vitali would at least think twice if they were tagged clean with one of Haye's straight rights. Anyone without a granite chin will probably only be able to take a few before the fight starts slipping from them.

On top of that, I think David will be fitter and healthier at this weight, so his power will certainly remain and will probably increase. I think it'll be compounded by the fact he has bigger, slower targets that he'll be able to catch flush more often.

Conclusion: yes, he'll carry the power up, and his opponents are likely to get hit more due to the speed difference.

His power is probably better if anything, but these guys will take a shot better. I still think he's one of the harder punchers out there, probably harder than Vitali, but not as powerful as Wlad or Tua.
