At the peak of his powers, Michael Nunn seemed like he had it all. Great boxer, great physical gifts, and would occasionally prove the doubters wrong regarding his punching power. His one punch knockout of Kalamby was outstanding, his domination of Frank Tate equally so. That said, Nunn gets criticised for putting in average showings against aging fighters such as Starling, Curry, and Barkley. Do we criticize Nunn for not looking great against past prime fighters, or do we simply look at the names and credit Nunn as having a outstanding record? I felt Nunn was looking great until Toney knocked him out late in their fight.
I'm not the biggest Nunn fan all thigns considered, but oen thing you don't often see mentioned about him was his bodypunching. He had brutal uppercuts to the body and hit seriously harder there than he did to the head, purely because he committed so much better to it.
I'm not expert on Nunn. My set only just arrived, so I'm yet to see a lot of his fights. I'll look out for the body punching. From what I've seen of Nunn, his best attributes seem to be his fast hands, throwing punches in bunches, and lateral movement.
Similarities, certainly. I still think Nunn was a little more cute with his work, taking more care with the placement of his punches. Better footwork on the part of Nunn also, who would often leap slightly out of range, whereas Paul is mostly flat footed from what I've seen. I see the similarities though. Huge frames, throwing clusters of punches.
That's a good observation, agree completely, Nunn's strengths over Williams are definitely in the accuracy department. Williams can be countered, the jab is (no disrepsect) often sloppy, but he's making up for it with workrate, especially lately, he has a quality uppercut, both when swarming and as a counter. Nunn had a better boxing game, Williams looks a swarmer to me a lot, interesting to watch considering his body frame like.
Was nunn ever in talks to fight gerald mccellan terry norris or roy jones? alsi i remember a few years back when nunn vs clinton woods was nearly a done deal for sheffeild i was going to get tickets but it fell through last minute
After the Toney loss Nunn really started jumping up in weight. Norris very preferred it at 154 so they were basically moving in opposite directions.
there nothing a like are you being serious? both 6 foot 3 southpaws, are both black and have great work rate, and throw punches in bunches
