Had no idea there was even footage that existed: [yt]kBbj_frkg8Q[/yt] [yt]CiVg-Kl_cF8[/yt] [yt]2gnxFRAQsUo[/yt]
George's first fight on his comeback ,his timing was way off ,but he was so heavyhanded ,and in the later stages of the fight, his jab was going right through the game Zouski.Timely stoppage by the ref.
It was very interesting how he started out as a joke with 99% of boxing critics calling his comeback a joke to the point where he made everyone believers after the Holyfield and Moorer fights.
I've never seen the Stewart fight, but I've seen George's face afterward. What the hell happened? George looked grotesque. Winning back the title at his advanced age was just a testament to how the division had declined since the 70s. Don't get me wrong, the prospects of the 90s are my favorite Heavyweights ever. Bowe, Ruddock, Cooper, I love them all. But with the exception of Bowe, nthey weren't great fighters - just exciting fighters.
George decked him twice in the first, but Alex was allowed to stick around and actually used a pretty good jab throughout the fight. Foreman's face just kept getting bigger and bloodier as time passed. I still gave the fight to Foreman, but it was very close.
George looked like he had been hit by Tyson repeatedly for 12 straight rounds. Stewart must have landed some serious leather for that to happen.
Stewart was actually pretty good when he was "on"... plus, he gave Holyfield a good fight the first time. He wasn't that hard a hitter, but a 220 pound boxer who keeps landing for 10 rounds is going to have its effect on you..... sometimes a lighter hitter can cause much more facial damage (see: Ali). It's really unpredictable. George showed great heart, but the decision to continue his comeback after that seemed even more brave (or stupid). It did work for him in the end, but even in hindsight, it's a miracle.
Alex was actually in very sculpted shape for that fight, better than he had been for Tyson or Holyfield. He also seemed to have a slightly improved defense and offense. He held his guard closer to his body and jabbed more than he swung or looped. He was very unpolished a few years earlier in the Holyfield fight.
Stewart was involved in a lot of good fights but his fight against Ezra Sellers late in Stewart's career may have been his very best: http://www.megavideo.com/?v=5JVFXN3G Moorer also had his hands full against Stewart: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS9TRbtlkhs[/ame]
The reason Foreman's face swelled up like it did is because he, as he often did, refused to sit down so his corner could work on his face. Typical enswell work and what not, and considering how tall George is... I guess they had a hard time getting anything done with his face. Sure was worth standing up and being a pain in the ass for, huh George.
