Randomly, I was just looking at Jermain Taylor's stats and realised the combined records of the opponents that defeated him was an outstanding 117-0.

Not saying his career is over but, did Taylor live up to his potential or not?

Personally I think so, He did what few men have done in this world of abc belts, and held all 4 at one time, to me thats a good acheivement.

taylor's biggest legacy will be his competition. NO active fighter has consistently fought better or more dangerous opposition. he had balls and his courage and desire should never be doubted. other than that, he fell below expectations

I feel he had potential to achieve more. Stamina should never be an issue for these world class fighters because its something that you can easily improve in training. Taylor has stamina issues, therefore he should have been training for 15-18 round fights instead of 12. I feel that if his stamina was better he would have beaten Hopkins more clearly, Pavlik twice, and Froch.

He doesn't look like the same fighter he was against Hopkins. He still makes some of the same mistakes, but he doesn't have the speed, intensity, and endurance he had then.

The guy that beat Hopkins, could have probably outpointed Abraham. The guy in there with Abraham is a shell of his former self.

But Taylor's problem is fundametal, which puts him in a much worse situation. Because some guys prosper, BERNARD, and some falter ROY. Taylor is in the same category as ROY.

I think it depends on the expectations that one had for him to me he did. I always just thought of JT as more of a superior athlete than boxer so to accomplish what he did was really impressive. He was never really just outclassed even though he was stopped 3 times.

true but i still think it's pacing. taylor still fights every round like the fight depends on it. he's always trying to impress and has **** game plans. if he spent time banking rounds and pacing himself, i don't see him gassing

You know, I agree. Maybe I was mistaking the fact he consistently fought dangerous opponents for acheivement...

But holding all 4 abc's at one weight, even for one fight, i find impressive, and a healthy acheivement for our sport.

Jermaine Taylor is a credit to the sport of boxing, IMO.

He achieved a lot, and was always willing to fight the best.

    What more can you ask?

I wonder how he would have done if he had either stayed with Burns or LISTENED to Manny Steward. Many, myself included, blamed Steward for the Pavlik losses. Hind sight is a ***** though. In the end, it was up to Taylor to make sure he was in condition. He lived off his natural ability and didn't push himself hard enough in training. My opinion anyhow.

Taylor is respected and liked among the majority, he fought well and hard against top competition, and was a humble, great guy the whole time.
