Not even in the same league as Roy. Roy has more talent in one hand than Taylor has in his entire body. Taylor wont even be able to beat Andre Dirrell without being knocked out. He never even in his best day had a chance against Pavlik or Abraham even with perfect stamina. You act like those fights were competitive. Taylor has never really beaten anyone of note besides Bernard Hopkins. The rest of his fights were either gift decisions, or knock out losses.
I'm a Taylor fan, so I obviously have a lot of respect for him. However, he is one of the most frustrating fighters I have ever followed. I honestly believe his problems started when he left Burns and hooked up with Steward. Doubt me? Listen to the absolute non-sense Steward told JT during the first Pavlik fight. After the Steward fiasco JT made Ozell Nelson his head trainer, and once again we heard JT's trainer giving him the worst possible instructions. I truly beleive that if Jermain had stayed with Burns, his career would have been completely different.
Well said. Particularly about him being the most frustrating fighters you've ever followed. I can relate to that sentiment. So many times I've just sat at the screen shaking my head and asking him to do what he just needed to do, and he wouldn't. Or recently his two final-round knockouts. He's made up for it all the way with me, though, by never letting me down and always fighting the very best, time and time again.
Oh, and nice observation to the thread starter regarding Taylor's conquerors all being undefeated. I hadn't realized it myself.
Thanks. Yea i had just started going over his fights and once i noticed all the 0's gettin the best of him, and all the talk going on with him i figured i bring that up since i noticed no one else had. good thread so far.
I think what Taylor did was outstanding...I do feel that he should hang em up though..if he dont he gonna end up in bad health...
Is he not still in the tourny? If he beats dirrell convincingly has then got a chance to go through and prevail. I didnt see the fight but he did cause Abraham some probs so i am told. Surely if he does win his next fight momentum can be built and so can confidence. Also if he were then to fight Carl Froch would you bet againts him?
I get flamed for pointing out the facts on a regular basis, but frankly, I don't give a ****. JT beat Hopkins TWICE. He went from that lofty summitt down to losing back to back fights to Carl the Clumsy and Arthur the Can Killer. If I could tell Jermain one thing to his face it would be; Nice ride cowboy, but it's time to quit the rodeo.
117-0. That is a good find and makes you think... Taylor has fought at the highest level and never lost to some random Joe like a Toney has for example. I would say that overall - looking at an entire career Taylor has done very well - and he is still very much alive in the Super Six. Things could turn around with one win in the next fight.
If he stays in the tourney, and beats dirrel convincingly (116-112), i think he'll have the momentum and motiviation to right his wrongs and avenge his loss against froch in a close decision.
Hate to sit on the fence but he's both. If you told me/us/him right after the Olympics that he would 'beat' the long reining Undisputed Middleweight Champion it would be a resounding YES!! But due to the HBO hype machine he could be considered an underacheiver. Considering the difference between the Amature game and Professional I'd say yes, he lived up to expectation when you compare him to Audley Harrison among others.
