First of all I like rogan for the most part. But I was just rewatching the fifth round of Shogun vs Lyoto and I realized rogan was way out line in this round.
45 seconds in Lyoto catches a kick with his left hand a lands a MEAN right cross. Rogan is all over it "another beautiful body kick by rua"

There was a couple more in that round, the most stand out one in the last 10 seconds when lyoto finished with a combo while shogun landed NOTHING but again "nice left by shogun" Not to mention the rest of the fight.

After watching that, I give that round to machida. My score.

    1st 10-10
    2nd toss-up(Ill rewatch)
3rd Lyoto (barely, but then again, maybe he won it clearly on mute.)
4th Rua (he dominated this one)
5th Lyoto (on mute he took this one hands down, look closely if you dont agree)

After thinking this was a robbery, even when I had money on Lyoto, Im beginning to think Rogan might having been smoking cracking and watching old pride grand prix fight tapes to get pumped up before this event, hence the shogun nutswinging; hence he brainwashed all of us. It happens. It was a real close fight. Watch the 5th round again, its even funny.

I stand with my initial assessment of the fight. I was the only one who thought Machida won.

People gets too emotional about this.

Can you blame him? Shogun was the best light heavyweight in the world before he got injured against mark coleman when they fought in pride. He look bad against griffin in his first fight back.

Now that he is 100%, injury free and has look like the shogun of old against liddell and machida who he beat last saturday.

Anybody giving round 5 to Machida has serious balls calling somebody else delusional.

    A few reasons why.

    1. Machida has been TOO dominant. It happened with Roy Jones, Floyd, GSP even and etc.

We get so used to seeing these guys CLEARLY and dominantly win rounds and fights that A. deep inside we all want to see them lose a round, just because....and B. we get almost brainwashed so that when we see someone make it even remotely close, we judge it as them losing in some sort of way rather then them still winning, just not as dominantly.

    2. Machida's style does not please fans when he isn't knocking somebody out. MMA is skills and an art and a sport and all of that, but you cannot help but to also see it as a "fight". After all "fight" is in the UFC's name. And in a "fight", you don't retreat. Ok ok, I know it's very strategic and all, but conventional wisdom and knowledge of "fights", the man backing up and retreating is the man who is losing. This is ever more imprinting on the mind of casual fans when the guy retreating and countering is not inflicting any damage, which was the case here. Its not like he was visibly hurting Rua, he wasn't. Maybe once I saw Rua get hurt, but I saw Machida back up ALOT.

So due to those 2 points above, Machida is at a disadvantage. After all of that has run through the minds of of fans.....then the clean shots, effective aggression, octogan control etc etc is judged.

Right or Wrong, that is the way it is.

All that being said. Rua won the fight and deserves the belt. :deal

Alot of times when Rua was landing that leg kick Machida was catching him with that right hand. I kept noticing the right hand over the leg kick.

This thread is more about Rogan seeing and getting excited about something thats not there twice in the same round. I'm not calling him delusional because he thought shogun was fighting a great fight. Lyoto thinks he lost Rd 5? Really, Id like a link to this interview. All these rounds were quite close except for the fourth, but I gave the 5th to him after rewatching the round and those two instances. When I first watched it I thought he lost it as well, but maybe more because I thought lyoto was just done after the fourth round.
