Clottey is not a big puncher. You can pull the "you know **** about boxing" card all you like, doesn't change the blatantly obvious fact that a guy who has never stopped anyone of note, who has gone the distance in 10 of his last 12, and only has a slightly better KO ration than Juan Diaz, is NOT a puncher. End of story.

That's reasonable, if he is able to land a lot of volume he will hurt Cotto.

Cotto is not known for his defense, its his offense that Cotto has been rated on. Pac being the smaller fighter, how will his defense hold up agains Cotto offense. Thats the real question!!!

why are you comparing this with Cotto's last fight with Clottey? Styles make fights and Clottey and Pacquiao are like night and day. Pacquiao as you stated has great lateral movement and an arsenal of weapons with both hands. He also lacks some defensive skill as he is vulnerable to counters (proven by Marquez even Morales early in his career). Clottey has a great guard but not great lateral movement and lacks some counterpunching skills. Basically, if you watch the fight you get the sense that Clottey does not know how to throw while being thrown at. He's either guard up in defensive mode or guard down throwing punches. With that said, why do you think Cotto will fight with Pac the same way he fought with Clottey? Like I said they have different styles. Why not expect a performance similar to when he fought Judah (fast hands, slick southpaw) or Mosley (quick, ATG welterweight boxer)? Why wasn't his swiss cheese defense beaten those fights?

Your shitty British logic fails you again.

Clottey has been fighting WW for his entire career and bigger men. And Pacquiao has been fighting smaller men and jumping up in weight throughout his. He has only ONE fight at WW against DLH and the man quit from embarassment...not from severe punishment.

To assume Pac punches harder because his % is higher is stupid when considering he's jumping YET AGAIN to another weight class with men MUCH bigger and stronger than him.

An exaggerated example of this is Paulie Malignaggi has the shittiest KO% in the 140lb division. And yet Roman Gonzalez (minimumweight champ) has a KO rating of 83%...by your logic this would translate to Gonzalez being the harder puncher? :huh

Hatton and DLH were both the weaker man against Pac...this time you'll finally see Pac take on "the bigger man."

Get your head out of the sand my friend :-(

    Chris Byrd is your theory?

I think the point you are trying to make is that we should take into account that Pacquaio's power might not be carried up all the way to 145. Its something we should take into consideration. I have, it will.

Pacquaio will be hitting Cotto a lot harder, with a lot more accuracy and a lot more often that Clottey was able to do. Why? - Because Pacquiao is a vastly superior fighter.

While a KO% does usually tell the story of power it isn't always full proof. Clottey's style prevents him from accumulating alot of KO's. Carlos Quintana is currently sitting on a 71% KO percentage but no one would argue he has more power in his shots than Judah who is currently sitting on a 55% KO.

My point is that it is ridiculous to say that Manny hasmore power than Clottey. You are blined by hype my man.

Clottey slaps with his punches and doesn't have much power behind them.....You can say it's because of his style all you want. He just isn't a puncher.....Couldn't even get a washed up Corrales out of there and he hit him with everything but the kitchen sink.

    Good post.

Also, I bet if Quintana had spent half his career at 154 (the way Judah is a jr. welter fighting at welter) those numbers wouldn't be skewed the way they are. Judah's level of opposition has been superior also.

The number of shots he threw were GREATLY limited. He completely outclassed him and had him down a number of times.

So just think. Had he gone completely on the offensive, he could've had him out of there. And he doesn't SLAP with his punches. His punches are short and compact. They have a certain snap to them.

Calzaghe slaps. Danny Jacobs slaps. Show me a clip of Clottey "slapping" his opponents...Don't worry...I'll wait.
