how would George Foreman go against today's heavies?

He's the only boxer of the 70s that I think could do some damage in this division owing to his size, strength and ability to take a shot.

I think he'd be a better version of Sam Peter, but I still think he'd lose to the types of guys that Sam Peter has lost against.

Unfortunately his footwork would count against him with Vitali and Wlad, Ali didn't really have the power they have to hold him off so he could walk in - with Vitali and Wlad, he'll get knocked to **** before getting close to throw.

The idea of "Ali doing stick and move" in relation to this thread makes me laugh. Ali didn't stick and move against Foreman.

Probably lose a decision to Vitali, Haye is still a question mark, and chances are he would take enough risks to get to Wlad and knock him out.

He beats the rest.

 

The bottom line is Forman was considered a big Heavy in his day, punch wise & size-wise.

Today he'd be a bit smaller than most but he'd still have that big punch, so I'd never rule out a quick KO win for him over anybody.

I just don't see it happening vs. the Klitschkos because they are very good, very smart boxers with exceptional power themselves. Of course Forman could catch either with a big punch but I just don't think it's likely.

His problem is that he doesn't have an understanding of boxing, beyond the idea that nostalgia is actually a real reason to grade fighters above others.

Everything about George Foreman of the 70s indicates he's a slow plodding fighter who relied on power to ruin fighters smaller than him. In this era, he's going to be up against fighters as big as he is.

His style indicates to me that he'd dispatch quite a few of them, his power cannot be underestimated, but anyone who has actually seen video tapes of him fighting recognise how slow he was with his hands.

 

What do you expect when the guy is bashing Ali?

 

I'd favor Vitali's chances vs. George over Wlad's chances based on their styles. That's not to say I'd favor Forman over either of them.

 

I'd be pretty confident betting on Vitali. He's durable, strong, and skilled.

 

what are you basing this off of ruskull??? vitali's wins over arreola, peter, gomez, and sanders??? you think because he looked good against them he'd be able to repeat these performances with a prime FOREMAN?? the way VK fought arreola would land him on a stretcher if he fought foreman that way. how are you basing the klitschkos skills off of their poor opposition?

 

He did rely on his power too much IMO. It cost him vs. Ali.
