Anthony Mundine targets three of the biggest names in world boxing By Adrian Warren October 22, 2009 Anthony Mundine has called out three of the biggest names in world boxing and told his fans to expect big things next year. Mundine, the No.1 contender for the WBA middleweight title held by Germany's Felix Sturm, kept busy with an easy ten round unanimous points win over Argentina's Alejandro Falliga in a non-title fight in Launceston on Wednesday. Before a mooted April re-match, Mundine is scheduled to fight the winner of an Australian reality TV boxing show. Frequently criticised for not taking on the bigger names in the middleweight division, 34-year-old Mundine insisted he had been trying to arrange just such a clash. Following the Geale fight, Mundine issued a challenge to WBO and WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and another American, Paul Williams. Pavlik and Williams were meant to be fighting each other in Atlantic City on December 5, but the WBC and WBO champion has postponed his title defence because of an infection in his left hand. Mundine also called out another American superstar, Ronald "Winky" Wright, a multi world title belt-holder at junior middleweight. "All my fans stay with me, we've got some big things happening next year, so we're going to show the world that we are number one," Mundine said in his post-fight ring interview. How can you argue with that logic
i believe If he thought he could get sturm out of the country where points don't win prizes then he would be gunning for him too
Winky ? Pavlik ? Farking hell one has been semi retired for donkey's years and the other has one hand , why didn't Mundine pitch for the fight with Williams when the Williams / Pavlik fight was called off ?
And the band played on ....la la la la , Mundine " I called out Winky because Huey, Dewy and Louie were busy " Huey and me we got unfinished buisness for a start he called me names in school , Dewy well his chin is more fragile than mine so i can understand his actions , now Louie ? well he is the best of the lot of em like me he is the real deal probably the best there has ever been , like me also he never DUCKED anyone .....Man
The point of this thread is that Mundine has tried to fight bigger fighters without much reply....we know Bika got a "fair" offer and turned it down. I also read that Mundine had tried several times to get Pavliks team as well. So what does Mundine need to do to get the bigger fights? I think he needs to forget about the bigger fights and target name fighters from the states ranked around 25 like Manfredo and Lyell. After beating them maybe the bigger fights will come off.
No point in fighting Kessler again mate.....Mundine wont beat him. Hes got his best title chance against Sylvester and the IBF....hope he gets this fight. The only other title fight he has a "small" chance in is against Pavlik in the states....I dont think he can beat Sturm in Germany.
