Most of you probably remember that during the rather grueling negotiations for the proposed Pavlik/Williams fights a rematch clause was one of the major sticking points. Team Pavlik insisted they would not make the fight without a rematch clause. Team Williams threw a hissy fit. Well guess what. Now the biggest problem with making Williams/Martinez is that TEAM WILLIAMS demands a rematch clause:patsch

Biggest hypocrits in boxing today! It's on Rafael's ESPN page.

Now now Boo... there would be no hypocricy if Team Pavlik would've dealt with Team Williams professionally - like telling it how it is: "Mr. Goossen, unfortunately we don't really know when Kelly is going to be 100% ready". Instead, they simply lied or thought showing up in camp (instead of letting Kelly take the year off to fully heal) would make the infection and after-effects go away.

Now Williams has to do a deal on very short notice, meaning training for a completely different fighter in another division due to Team Pavlik's unprofessionalism, personally I'd make insurances myself in risky situations like this.

But hey, if a stupid rematch clause will KO Williams for the rest of the year, that's gonna be Stupidity vs. Goossen 2:0 - Williams should've fought Dzinziruk back in October.

Maybe team Williams is like "If nobody wouldn't complain about the rematch clause that Pavlik demand then nobody wouldn't complain about us wanting a rematch clause."

Exactly. Pavlik if he would have take care of his hand correctly would have plenty time to train for Williams while Williams will have like 4 or 3 weeks of training to prepare for a slick fighter like Martinez so why can't team Williams ask for a rematch clause since it's like a 4 weeks or 3 weeks notice until fight time?

Yep, its imagine how the negotiation positions have changed.

    They lowballed Clottey.
    They don't want rematch clauses
He still can't draw fans anywhere but still thinks he can dictate terms to everyone

But, hey, he is THE MOST AVOIDED MAN IN BOXING for a reason

Team Pavlik acted on the advice of Pavlik's physician. There is nothing unprofessional about that. If you were injured, and your doc said, "you can go back to work Monday," you would do what? Call your boss and say, "Gee boss, I have no idea when I can come back." I think not!

Yeah, but if you are in the mining business and you had your lungs collapsed due to heavy air, it might not be wise to go back mining as soon as you're released from the hospital. I'm sure the boss would understand the word 'rehabilitation'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the doctor never put a pin on any date by which Pavlik would have been ready, and gave vague guidance that he could be ready at any time. In any case, it's just common sense that you don't hope to begin training camp for a fight just a couple of weeks from when you can't even close your hand. They took a big, stupid gamble.

Thank you! These cats can throw as much gorilla dust as they deem necessary. That won't change the fact that Goosen's position is extremely hypocritical.

Correct me if I'm wrong but does it make sense to negotiate and sign contracts if you're not 100% in good health!?!?

It's is extremely sad how some Pavlik fans will try and assasinate Team Williams character even though Team Pavlik has pulled out of the fight twices!!!:-(

How is it hypocritical? As you said you don't how much Clottey normally makes. Now if it's 500k or 650k offer then i don't think thats a low ball cause i bet you he didn't get more then that vs Cotto. You saying Clottey has to move up? Doesn't this guy weighs 20 pounds more on fight night? lol. But you forgot to mention that Williams has to move back down to junior middleweight while he was training at a middleweight to face Pavlik.

Thats the reason i dont like Williams at all. He runs his mouth about being avoided then when a challege comes up that is too much risk vs reward then he shuts his mouth and looks the other way.
He is just like all the other boxers fighting for a big payday so all this i will fight anybody stuff is bull****. He will fight anybody as long as the money is right is what he should say. Kind of like PBF.
