I don't think I saw the Larsen fight and yeah ok Brewer and Mitchell were iffy no doubt but i still say he was more than people give him credit for. He was posion to watch and the refereeing the Reid fight was beyond comical but then thats not his fault either . If getting some iffy shouts makes you a bum then it should be Oscar not Strum on that list above. like i said tho i was never a fan he was certainly a boxer who had little or no interst in fighting lol !
Mitchell admitted he lost, he literally said Ottke was too fast for him. Ottke made Brewer miss all night. This is the type of bull**** people throw at Ottke. He wouldn't have an undefeeated record if every fight had been scored fair, but so what? Many fightes have gotten gift decisions without being labeled frauds.
Because he's a cheat. Holyfield didn't personally score his own fight, however Ottke kept looking at the ref in the Reid fight for the biggest non events in the fight to make sure he got the most favourable treatment possible.
Well,I also had Brewer ahead on points after 12 rounds in their first encounter. I also think that Larsen deserved to be the victor as he had done enough to win that fight IMO.However,I wouldnt argue the toss with someone who had Ottke ahead on points. The Mitchell fight? No way that Ottke lost that fight.I watched it live and like everyone else I was totally flabbergusted to learn that there was no unanimous point decision in favour of Ottke.Even Mitchell raised his hands giving props to the winner. Anyway! I guess me like the mayority of fight fans just hated Ottke's style. He was a runner and sprinter in the ring, a true pain to watch.Nevertheless,he did win most of his fights ..................admittingly,in a way nobody wants to watch a boxer win his fights.
He also used to be updated at the end of every round as to what the scorecards were. Reid only found out mid-way through their fight due to his promoter keeping an ear on their corner.
Get used to it, that´s ESB One ****** spreads something and all lemmings agree. I bet most of the posters in this thread: a) haven´t seen all of his fights b) have no idea of judging by the book ...and YES that one fight was shitty and he hat some close calls, but he is not the reincarnation of the devil many here try to make him... :-(
Again not trying to make him out to be the Devil. The reason for this thread is that someone brought up in conversation with me that he was 'undefeated'. I of course did my best johnny mac impression, 'you cannot be serious'.
Adding insult to injury, Ottke is nominated to be introduced to the IBHOF 2010: http://www.secondsout.com/news?ccs=1624&cs=107215 The final decision will be announced in December. Let's hope this fraud won't make it.
Good post and there is very little of it that I disagree with. Again though it would suggest that you agree he shouldn't be mentioned as undefeated. Also great last paragraph and I 100% agree.:deal
In money terms he is second only to the golden boy! However money rankings is the only way he should be entering the hall of fame.
Hi, congratulations to being the crowned king of bullshitters. Mads Larsen ? Byron Mitchell ? For what ? Looking more badass with all their tattoos and stuff ? Being the black guy in the ring ? Larsen won rounds when Ottke knew he had the fight in the bag, cruising for the last rounds to a decision like he did everytime he knew he cannot lose anymore (he knew the scores, which was the only unfair thing about it). So it's a bad robbery when you want someone to lose badly, but he still nicks the rounds by defensively keeping the other guy from hitting him and scoring himself with like 3, 4 flurries in between ? Did you score the fight Adamek-Dawson 120:108 for Adamek then ? The american bullshitters didn't even give Adamek the round where scored a KNOCKDOWN on Dawson. I get a headache from all this childish bullcrap "Ottke wuz a fraaaaaud" just because he should have lost to Reid with one point. That was the second last fight of his career when he became too slow for his own style, he subsequently realized that and retired after a farewell fight. Mitchell himself admitted he lost in the press conference after the fight. He was thoroughly outboxed by Ottke, got his face bloodied by that one, and (hoooray) managed to land ONE big shot in the 12th round. But of course, when Ottke doesn't knock someone down, he automatically loses the round because the other guy is darker, has more tatoos, or "looks stronger". Kiddie logic at its finest.
The Robin Reid fight was one of the worst i've ever seen. It turned me off boxing for a year or so. It still makes me angry now... ****ing ref punishing Reid for throwing punches!!!
