Ive read about Monzon being a sociopath. Lately I've been learning about sociopaths and find a very interesting link between Monzon's sociopathy and his ring demeanor. Apparently sociopaths have and extremely sluggish autonomic nervous system which means they do not feel much arousal from things that most people do. For example, they are considered practically immuned to fear and startling responses as well as very strong emotions in general. Does this give some insight into how Monzon was always so calm, cool, collected, and in control in the ring?

There's different characteristics to being a sociopath, I don't know if Monzon being calm in the ring really has much to do with his sociopathic/anti-social personality disorder. For instance, Mike Tyson sure seems to have a number of the characteristics of a sociopath. But he wasn't always too calm in there and lost control in the ring on more than a single occassion.

Tyson was actually diagnosed as bipolar, and a lot of his wackiest behavior, (like some of his press conference breakdowns) seem like they were done while in the middle of a mixed state/episode. Copy and paste from wikipedia, because it would take too long to explain otherwise: The bolded/underlined section always reminds me of Tyson during that Lennox Lewis press conference when he flipped out at that guy. Even though he was screaming at the guy and shouting things like "I'll **** you till you love me ******" he was nearly in tears while he was doing it. Also, one of the key features of a sociopath is that they tend to have absolutely no compassion or empathy with other people. Some don't even regard other people as being alive, or real people. Tyson was tremendously influenced and impacted by other people, especially the deaths of people close to him. So I probably wouldn't put him down as a sociopath, just confused and kinda messed up in the head.
It was that detached, icy, unemotional demeanor of Monzon's that always attracted me...the fact that he never indulged in bull**** in the ring theatrics like Duran and so many others, as well as the fact that he never got humbled or "spanked", also like Duran and so many others..it was almost like he was appearing in his own movie..lind of a cross, as someone once said, between Charles Bronson and Jack Palance...he was probably, in retrospect, one of the coolest and "untouchable" type fighters ever..IN THE RING that is...outside the ring, it all came tumbling down for him, as he spent his last years in the pen..it was no doubt a good thing for Monzon as well as the public that he was so successful a fighter and champion, good for his safety as well as the publics, because I agree that he exhibited all the signs of a sociopath.
Yes, my cousin has bipolar type 1 I believe. During episodes he got very manic and did some crazy things/****. Tyson's extreme behavior and actions definitely seemed trigger by manic-depressive episodes. After seeing/understand bipolar from my cousin experience I was instantly sort of reminded by Tyson and his actions. Even Robbin GIvens mentioned how Tyson was 'manic depressive.'
That statement is simply untrue. Most sociopaths also called psychopaths display a sluggish autonomic nervous system. I learned this in my psychology classes but if you don't believe me all you have to do is google sociopath and nervous system and I'm sure you will find a lot of information professing this link.
