Let's look at just one aspect of what Dirrell did against Froch. He repeatedly jumped in to clinch without throwing anything. Now ask yourself, how many right hands can Dirrell take from AA? That's VERY important because he will get hit not one time, but everytime, he does that with AA.

Direll has a ton of potential, but right now he should be fighting the likes of Joey Spina, Peter Manfredo, and Jesse Brinkley, not competing in this tourney. That's not a knock on Dirrell. It's just the reallity of where he is at this point in his career.

I doubt Dirrell will have to clinch much against AA. Atleast not for the first 6 rounds, because its not AA's style to press the action. He's not as clumsy, awkward and wild as Froch either. So he'll be much easier for Dirrell to predict. Again Dirrell really didnt start clinching until the 8th and 9th round. Only when Abraham is down majorly on the cards, which will be the case will Dirrell have to get cagey.

:lol::lol: Wow. What a stupid dumbass post. He just nearly beat the WBC champion of the world, getting robbed in the process, and he shouldnt be fighting in this tournament. You know who should have never entered this tournament? Taylor. Dirrell and Andre Ward are right at home. You'll see come Nov 21st, and then you can seriously start questioning your rudimentary knowledge of the supermiddleweight division.

I disagree, I think he was scraping it up until that point by landing very infrequently even if they were quality punches. These were the rounds Dirrell actually impressed me and pulled away on my card, I've no idea how the judges saw that differently. I agree its a matter of gameplan and mentality, if he fought like that in the majority of rounds I'd have no trouble picking him against Pavlik. Perhaps he has taken confidence from that and will do in future, but if he fought the same 12 rounds against Pavlik I don't think he'd win the fight, so I'll assess him from now on see what he's learnt.

In my mind Dirrell is uncomfortable up close. Very intermittently did he look to hold his ground before the last few rounds, and when they were in close Froch seemed a lot stronger than him even throwing him around. He also seemed to jump out and grab hold of Froch rather than infighting on certain occasions which is okay as a gameplan but its not a sign of a fighter that is absolutely comfortable there, I'm sure he prefers to be at long or at least midrange.

I disagree, Pavlik's punches are a little snappier and even if they weren't they are certainly straighter which is much more likely to land compared to a wide hook that Froch was throwing. Anybody with reflexes can avoid a wide hook like that.

The majority of the times they were in the clinch it was Dirrell pushing Froch back up against the ropes, not the other way around. Froch did slam Dirrell, but there is nothing you can do about that especially if you arent expecting it. Again, watch the exchanges that Dirrell and Froch had, and who pushed back who.

Froch is an awkward fighter. Pavliks straighter more coordinated attacks would probably do more to hinder him against a fighter like Dirrell then help. Pavlik would have to hope for a big bomb if he hopes to win. Most American judges favor defense, ring generalship, and effective aggression unlike most European judges it seems. So I doubt simply making dirrell back up will score him points, the same way it did for Froch in Nottingham.

Let's see, Dirrell just lost a ridiculously winnable fight because he had no clue how to stay in the pocket, counter Froch, put him on the back foot, walk him down and knock him out. That's boxing 101, and Dirrell did not know how to do that, but ya, he belongs in the tourney:patsch

Or lets see in reality. In reality, Dirrell outjabbed and countered Froch for atleast 7 of the first 10 rounds, then stepped on the gas in the championship rounds, beat him from post to post and nearly had him out of the fight in the 10th. This being against the man who knocked out Jermaine Taylor, and has a victory over a current light heavyweight champion, of which had this fight been in a nuetral venue, he would have won a decision handily.

But let me guess, Bute deserves to be in over Dirrell. Because his record is so much more impressive. You know, being one of only fighters in history to win a fight after being KO'd by a guy who blocks punches with his face because his arms numb up under punishment. :rofl Clown.

There was only one guy falling to the floor numerous times up close and jumping out from the ropes to hold without throwing and that was Dirrell. He looked weak to me at close range and I think its a primary area to work on along with his mindset and gameplan. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I don't think it could get much worse than a slow handed fighter throwing uppercuts and hooks from the other side of the ring. It's easy to avoid that ****, and Froch was predictable with it too. You gotta give yourself the best chance to land against a quick reflexed fighter and the shortest distance is a straight line.

He fell like twice on slippages, and maybe once because Froch was holding his head down. Not indicative of who was the stronger of the two fighters. I think when one fighter his able to back up another fighter because of punches, thats more indicative of power, then a wrestling match, of which btw, Dirrell won aswell.

Not really. Its easier to time a punch if you know where it is coming from. AS to why Mosley struggled with Mayorga but was able to dominate Margarito so categorically. On paper Margarito bests Mayorga in every category, but Mayorga is awkard, throws punches from weird angles and is hard to time. Thats why Hopkins was able to so easily best PAvlik. Pavlik has basically 2 punches and thats it. His jab and a right hand. Once the right hand was nuetralized, Hopkins went to town. I dont see Dirrell being bothered by Pavliks 2 punches.

I don't think Dirrell/Froch and Pavlik/Hopkins are that similar in what happened. Pavlik very rarely even got in a position to punch, firstly because of Hopkins excellent movement and ring IQ, and secondly Hopkins threw him off completely with lead right hands and left hooks, he actually got off first a lot of the time as well as counterpunching. Pavlik didn't know when and how to come forward and was completely confused, made wary by Hopkins.

Froch got in positions but missed wildly due to a poor punch technique, lack of accuracy and a natural lack of handspeed. How many times did we see Froch just plain miss? All three probably contributed to his not landing much. So I think Pavlik would have more opportunities in that fight, whether he's good enough is another matter but I do prefer his punch technique and handspeed to Froch's provided he's got the opportunity.

Fair enough. Abraham is a much more technically sound boxer then Froch. Can throw some crazy looping rights, but aslo is a good jabber. We'll see how Dirrell performs against him, and if it really is that case that Froch made Dirrell look good or the fact like McGuigan, and Froch's own trainer seem to believe, that Dirrell is the fastest fighter in the tournament, and in Froch's corners own words, the hardest to prepare for.

Again I predicted how this fight would go, barring the robbery, even though most were predicting Froch to walk through Dirrell like nothign and im fairly certain that I wont be too far off on my prediction that Dirrell will beat Abraham, a fight that he will be ahead heavily on the scorecards already going into the championship rounds.

I will be watching with interest to see if Abraham has more success on the offensive front. He has underrated handspeed. Sometimes lacks accuracy especially early in the fight but eventually he starts to time things so it should be interesting.

Dirrell will also have to come out of his shell a little or nobody is going to be punching. He'll want to get rounds in the bag early, I think we'll see a jabbing contest for a while. It's when we get half way and Abraham starts to open up we'll have a good idea how the fight will turn out.

Personally I think you have to hurt Abraham to beat him. Hurt him early and often so he stays in his shell, and then back him into a corner and suck the life out of him. I can't see Dirrell doing that.

    Say what?

    Please...

Comparin Dirrell to Hopkins. Now you said some dumb **** this thread, like, "It's better to throw wild haymakers against a fighter like Dirrell than short punches."

    :patsch

But show me ONE fight where Hopkins runs. ONE FIGHT.

I've never seen Hopkins run. And if you think the best way to beat Dirrell is with wild haymakers, I guess Andrade has got his number.

I guess Dirrell whups Hopkins ass at this point in his career along with every other straight punching fighter because they don't throw wild ass haymakers you need to beat Dirrell.

Man, if you got some kinda thing with Dirrell, like you want him to be your boyfriend or somethin that's cool....but don't let it cloud your opinion when you think BOXING.

Like i said, Dirrell has P4P habilities, but he need to fight like a man.
