But is he body building or is he training different muscle fibres? He obiviously has his own methods and using them for a reason. Should he be toning continually or should he be replicating explosive movement throughout the body? Should he be training type 1, type 2a or type 2b muscle fibres? Or should he be training all of them seperately? Or should he be training them all at the same time? Should he be training the core muscles or should he be training the biceps and triceps? Should they be continuously doing burpees or should they be breaking up their training so that it is continually fresh and challenging?

Should they be training for endurance, and the same time speed and power? What should the SKY TV cameras record? The explosive/ heavy unusual work or the 200 press ups and sit ups? Whats going to make the viewer take a bit of notice?

Have you viewed a Kerry Kayes training program from start to finish and compared it to what a 'normal' boxer does for his strength and conditioning?

Weight training replicating the movements you make while you box or utilising the muscles you use to punch, defend and move can improve the speed, strength and endurance of each movement. Fact. Izmat- your onto a losing argument here pal. Not been horrible.

Most healthy athletes will use compound exercises for the majority of a training program.I don't see how Hatton doing isolation exercises on the machines would give more benefits than free weight compound exercises

All I can say is that there is plenty of evidence showing that free weight isolation exercises are weak for athletic performance. And I personally wouldn't go to a bodybuilder for sports performance. However, I don't dispute his effectiveness with getting boxers making weight etc

True, but perhaps there is a reason for that. Perhaps its so that he can lift an impressive amount so that his mind is positive going into the fight? Perhaps their trying to impress the average TV viewer who thinks 'christ thats some weight'. Perhaps they were nursing an injury. Your right what your saying, ideally exercises should be done with free weights or cables but Kerry Kayes clearly knows a lot more then you or I so i'm pretty certain their is a reason for it.

Maybe he is isolating the muscles so that individually it has a much higher 1RM but not doing this 'free' so that the supporting muscles are not trained the same way. You'd be far better looking at the 'whys' rather then reading a few websites and saying he's wrong. Check out the training section Izmat its awesome.

    You into weight training yourself?

he doesn't get them doing body building routines. to my understanding he will do something along the lines of a 20 minute HIT (high intensity training) session where he is doing bodybuilder exercsies but not with full motion. he does this to put less strain on the body yet reap the benefits specific for a boxer.

and he uses the machines instead of free weights for less chance of injury, and no more than 20 min sessions

i'm a big believe in the olympic lifts. compound movements creating a full body of strength - bench press, squats, deadlifts and clean and jerk.

I know how much these products cost to produce and with CNP products you pay for advertising/salaries/margin not for a better product but it depends what your comparing it to

On topic, Kayes knows how to maximise muscle mass and minimise fat, his strength training techniques are not the best for boxers but worse techniques are often used

don't think i've ever seen free weights.

machines don't work the muscles as much but they are safer on the body.

Machines are generally good for beginners but in reality using free weights is much more functional with regards to a boxer whose core strength and synergists are put under a hell of a lot more strain then a footballer due to the high contact nature of the sport. Also with a boxer you often have to improvise the plain of movement of a punch because an opponent moves or you reflexively throw- by using machines you are isolating the muscle and training it only to move in the plain the machine allows. Cables and free weights would be best for any fighter it would seem.

I would agree for sport specific moves but with the sort of moves Hatton is doing then I think the machines will provide stability but work the smaller muscles less cos you don't have to control it. Shrugs, squats, calf raises etc Hatton is only trying to create maximum strength so he doesn't have to do it with free weights.
