well said, exept the boring bit.

I've been reading alotta talk on how Clottey would beat Williams, people just need to take a step back and take a good, long hard look at Clottey. Now is this a guy that you would put any real stock against Paul Williams or is he just convenient right now because Paul Williams is becoming the most feared freak in sports? C'mon gents, Clottey will break your hearts as he's not a pedigree thoroughbred to stop the South Carolina kid. Cute little shoulder roll fighter (yes) with a good look against Margarito...but no style puzzle for Paul Williams.

There's just no consistent line of evidence to support a bandwagon for Clottey beating Paul Williams. Anyone spitting this nonsense is going for the low risk/high reward rainbow of "what if", because anything can happen and if Clottey gets blown out, then Paul Williams was suppose to yada yada. Even biggest Josh worshippers don't truly believe in this Clottey crusade; it's just a natural reaction as Paul Williams is starting to garnish a "gangsta" role and it's fashionable to predict a villian's fall. That simple.

Anyone with half an eye or knows anything about boxing can see he's not just a "big bugger with long arms"

    let me see...

    6 foot
    southpaw
100 punches around from all sorts of weird and wonderful angles
    multi-faceted/can fight backwards
he can fight in a phone booth or from across the street
    awesome stamina
    very good beard
fluctuating in weight to find the best dancemate

    and the list goes on...

I would advise you to get yourself a copy of the Margarito fight and as i said to another PW doubter...as a diehard I yearn for the way it was back in the 80's when the sweet science was a thriving sport right up there. Well if the majority can't see just how refreshing this kid is by going to 160 and calling fighters out in 4 weight classes...and destroying a boricua southpaw in a rematch...then maybe boxing is a dying sport? But I choose to toast this "gangsta" for his Suicide Hank and Ray Robinson approach!

By the way you're too smart to actually think that he's no good or that fighting people like Verno was a "choice" for an easy outing but more a product of no one, from Mosley to Margarito to Clottey, wanting to step into the ring with this Hearns' like freak. We've seen this before with Margarito being ducked by Mayweather DLH & Cotto (to an extent) several years back. It's a shame because while a portion of the blame lies with Paul Williams for shunning Margarito for a immediete rematch for example, the other 70% is scared shitless promoters pacifying their crop of diapered babies at 147, 154 etc!

Seriously good. Hope he takes the Middle title of Pavlik and puts some class back into the division.

Yep. We have not had a good American middle champ for over 10 years.

Yeah Clottey is getting good money, if he wins he gets a shot in the arm and if he loses he's got every excuse in the book for why he lost.

I admit Clottey's got a legitimate gripe about preparation to move to 154 because he gets worked easy imo up there so he wants a max pay day. The same drama I gave Paul for initially turning down the Pavlik fight, I'm gonna give to Clottey too. Do you know that Paulie Malignaggi barely got 200 stacks to fight Diaz? Who's a way bigger draw then Paul. The point is unless this a negotiation tactic Joshua Clottey has lost the plot. He hasn't made 6k in 5 fights let alone 1.

The economical climate for a Joshua Clottey type is anywhere from 1-300K so 6 is double his worth. Paul aint a draw either but he's being compensated by HBO so he's all good. Clottey knows one more L will dead his career. I personally think the fight is a mis match but I guess since Pavlik fell through they're desperate. I think if I was advising Clottey i would say take 7k and use the weight and short time as an out.

Williams would win every single round. That's why it would be boring, especially when you know its going to happen and expect it. Too predictable.

I was looking forward to Pavlik getting whupped by Williams :-(

Can't stand the guy, for some reason. Certainly the worst linear MW champion since the pre-Hagler era.... like 30 years.

His reign consists of.... erm..... having Gary Lockett beg his trainer to throw in the towel, and taking nine rounds to get rid of some fat light middle who I'd never heard of!

He keeps complaining of being low balling? Does he know most fighters unless its the Klits, Hatton, Manny, JMM, Floyd, Shane, Bernard, Taylor a few others are only clearing 7 figures in boxing. You got vets who put in way more work then Joshua Clottey barely clearing 500k max career wise. That 650 shocked the hell outta me, I thought it was 2 much lol Can't have it both ways. I ripped Paul to shreds for initially turning down 1.5. He didn't even bank out with Cotto who's king kong next to Paul lol

Maybe camp Clottey got a dove up their sleeve ( boy I hope so). I understand the rationalization of jumping weight classeses and not getting 1 mill but Clottey has been on HBO twice under the bright lights and he came up with L's and he has no fan base, So it's going to be tough trying to crack a mill but who knows anything is possible.

He needs to realise that Paul is just bigger then Clottey draw wise or HBO wouldn't commit to him (trust me) I mean, lets tell it like it is Clottey is technically a high power gate keeper (tough opponent who pads your fighter resume). Far as him being close to Paul number then he's receiving bad advice because every HBO house fighter always gets the higher number. Lol He was on the undercard and got bump to the marquee and imo is getting way more then he probabily deserves.

By the way, its funny because even though Ike Quartey had more of a exciting style he also never lost a fight. lol

the way he came into his reign is a lot better than his reign. The way he beat Miranda, Zertuche and winning the title off Taylor had to make him a **** load of fans. I liked him but knew he was limited a bit like Cintron really.

To be honest, I was shocked as hell that Paul was to get 1.5 for Pavlik. I know for a fact HBO bridge the gap though just like they did for Tony when he fought Shane. The Pavlik thin hurt Paul so badly imo. I know Martinez is ideal but he's not slick enough he's another one of these guys who mocks Joe and Roy but lacks the God provided reflexes and gets hit way too much. I mean I think it's better then Joshua Clottey but he wants a gang of money and if Joshua got 650 he's lucky to get 3.
