I recall after Tyson destroyed an old Holmes in the post fight interview he said that he could have beaten him when he was 16. Noone present disagreed with that statement. It was not clear which Holmes he was referring to old or prime.

How would you call such a fight?

Actually Tyson said he would have never beaten Holmes in his Prime in the post fight interview. What fight were you watching?

Prime Larry Holmes picks Tyson apart from range, and leaves him for dead, and it doesn't matter how old Tyson is.

a 16 yr old tyson gets picked apart but there is no way holmes could have kept a 20 yr old tyson off of him as easy as u make it sound. tyson had good head movement coming in, he isnt a hatton or pavlik by any means.. with his old trainer in his corner, tyson was a very smart pressure fighter

Prime Larry Holmes also had major trouble with Renaldo Snipes. So a KO from Tyson is pretty likely. A 16 year old Mike has no chance though.

u might also be reffering to the tyson that lewis beat (lewis picked him apart from range) again a 20 yr old tyson is WAAAY different than tyson in his mid 30s

Young Tyson looked very good against certain types of fighters. Holmes is to tough, to fast, and to skilled. Tyson was an emotional midget and would fall apart when confronted with Larry's toughness, resiliancy, skill, and speed. This shouldn't even be a debate.

:roll: again with the Tyson will fall apart when someone is not afraid of him myth ?.

Guy who tried to box Tyson and work from a range where hunted down and destroyed. D'amato trained Tyson specifically with Holmes in mind.

Dancing away and trying to keep your range never worked against Tyson because he was

    A expecting it

B Specifically trained to cut of guys who treid to keep their distance.

C Too fast for that tactic to be viable

Prime Tyson vs Prime Holmes is 50-50.

:good. 20 year old Tyson takes it. Larry had big problems w/ snipes, witherspoon, cooney, and spinks (obviously holmes had faded towards the end). Yes, styles make fights but the 'super jab' wouldn't be enough to keep tyson honest. Tyson was quicker, more explosive, and better defensively

Prime Larry Holmes got beat by Spinx, twice. Tyson later went on to obliterate the man in 90 seconds.

i dont know about THAT, but in terms of being better offensively tyson takes it by a long shot, holmes defense was better, but not by much.

Holmes.... never has a fighter gone from being so underrated to so vastly overrated. Ignoring the thread title slightly, the best Mike tyson beats the best Larry Holmes every day.

its surprising no one has stated the obvious: holmes was very underrated and now (looking at the comments of him beating 20 yr tyson) he is very overrated.

20 yr old tyson would beat any holmes relatively easy, i'm not saying holmes wasnt good, but a prime tyson would take a couple of shots here and there and give very powerful shots in return to the body, head, uppercuts there is no way holmes keeps tyson off of him the entire 12 rounds. its an easy UD or possible TKO/KO for tyson
