I used to think he was one dimensional but he has clearly disproved that in recent fights. Cotto showed against Mosley that he could switch to a plan B and execute it well to get the win. He showed against Margarito that he could box effectively on the back foot and counter punch well. Cotto is far from 1 dimensional.

Actually, Vargas was pretty one-dimensional himself.

Depends on what you understand as being ''one-dimensional''.

To me, saying Vargas at his best was one dimensional is about as dumb as saying cotto is.....

Vargas was a very good boxer / puncher at his best..... and could box with an opponent as well as slug when he needed to. He beat Campas with total boxing, ring generalship, and intelligence (at one point fustrating campas completely while pointing to his head as if to say im outsmarting you) and then flip a switch, sit down on his punches and become a very brutal puncher.

Against Ike, he switched and although allowed ike to 'lead' early on, as to let ike walk INTO feroz's own attack, and effectively worked around ikes jab early on. Then would apply his strength and would bang with ike when he had him against the ropes.

Vargas was good when backing up, going forward, had decent footwork, had a very good right hand with some 'ferocious' body punching, and a defence that allowed him to go more then 30 rounds with the likes of hoya, trinidad, and ike quartey.

Vargas was not one dimensional in the slightest.... as cotto is not eather.

No. I do not agree w/ Vargas' assessment. Cotto wouldn't be where he is right now if he was a one dimensional fighter.

Fernando Vargas has some cheek bringing up the Duran situation. The man is remembered for quitting against Leonard? No he's not, he's remembered for being stupidly dominant at 135lbs, and then moving up to 147lbs and beating the second best Welterweight of all time in his prime..and not by running and pot-shotting, by beating him up physically. As if we even need to mention his accomplishments up at 154 and 160. Duran is not remembered for no mas. It's interesting he brought it up actually, Duran would go on to make history - proving that once you quit, that doesn't spell the end for a top flight fighter.

As for Cotto, I don't think he is one dimensional. He saw he could fight off the counter against Mosley, neutralizing his speed with movement and a good jab. Now, Cotto may quit again, as Vargas says, once you do it the first time the second is much easier. Do I think he will? I envision a Cotto victory, so absolutely.

I don't understand the emotional ones in this thread, this is the truth. Cotto IS a one-dimensional fighter but a very good one at it. More like a basic fighter who is good at it, doesn't make him crap. One dimensional fighters don't all fall in the same category, like I won't call him one-dimensional like Margarito, Cotto is predictable with what he does but can sometimes be unpredictable and CAN fight backing off or when hurt. So yes he is one-dimensional but with skill, not being one-dimensional means you can adapt, Cotto can't adapt as he fights one way but can add some question marks here and there when he's forced to.

Vargas isn't insulting him in any way for anyone to **** on Vargas. Vargas is an excellent fighter too who did pretty well at the Olympics especially for a Mexican fighter, people can't ignore all of that because he's retired. Would you laugh at Cotto's comments regarding other new fighters when he's out of the sport?, clearly it looks like the majority of children will. Vargas can afford sending out messages like this, he did what he had to and dedicated his life to the sport till he had none left. The man nearly beat another great ONE DIMENSIONAL(would love to see ANYONE trying to argue with that) fighter in Trinidad and gave him hell even though it was his 21st fight against Trinidad who had 38 going in his 39th. That's balls for you, these days all guys do is complain, ***** and send out lame ass contracts because they can "attract" more viewers.

Wasn't Cotto still bitching after team Pac agreed to HIS 145lbs catchweight demands by trying to NOT put the title on the line even though he's fighting a smaller guy with dickheads here supporting him for it?

Care to tell me what happened to Carlos Quintana in the rematch?

After you do, wake me up when Cotto fights Margarito in a rematch and if he does ANYTHING close to what Williams did in an attempt to show real revenge.

For now, **** off. You must some ******ed jackass bringing up someone Williams immediately rematched and wiped the floor with. Did Margarito, seriously, rematch ANYONE of the SIX that whopped his ass?, even in return he's looking to fight Cotto instead of Mosley. Peanuts for glory, yeah, in Tacobell.

one dimensional - means you have only ONE dimension to you....

Mayorga having that one big punch, coming forward looking for that ko.... his one dimension is knocking you out with a haymaker

    Darchinyan....

My boy Edison Miranda is the poster boy of being one dimensional....

Im sorry anyone who is calling Cotto one dimensional eather doesnt know the meaning of the term, or doesnt know a lot about cotto. Cotto can outbox you just as much as he can outslug you.

He stood toe to toe with Bailey, crushing him with crippling body shots.... completely defining the search and destroy, pit bull terminator body killer.

He had a boxing match with Mosley, in which he used footwork, timing, his jab, and boxing ability to win a decision.

He can adapt during a fight, and he can pretty much do anything in there.

Seriously.... theres not a whole lot farther you can get from one dimensional then miguel cotto.
