...this fight is still going to be a stinker. Honestly, its going to be a repeat of Valuev-Holyfield. Or at best Valuev-Ruiz. Haye has done a FANTASTIC job of promoting the fight, I've seen him on all sorts of stuff this week, he's really putting the time in. But does anyone really think that this is a good style match up, or will be an entertaining fight? I can see Haye either getting KO'd by a jab early on, or running for 12 rounds and getting a SD or being "robbed".
It wont be anything like either of the fights you mentioned because Haye is neither 76 years old or in the habit of tying opponents up and just having a hug. Haye will stop him around about the 5th or 6th in my opinion.
I don't think so. Haye will look to land bombs at some stage and the possibility that Britain could have a heavyweight champion this time next week is exciting. I think this fight will not dissapoint. It won't be an all out war, but it won't be a snoozefest either.
I did worry yesterday that it would look like Valuev v Holy. I hope Hayes speed and power can produce more hurt.
I agree with the opening opinion, I am not excited by this one at all, I think it will be a let-down - no matter how much publicity that has been invested in this - I just cannot get excited by this. I am not sure if I will buy it to be honest.
Its 6 years since Lewis was champ. The fact that Haye is the only top level British Heavyweight we have now, and the future is not guarenteed with Fury and Price being our best bets, it could be a very long time before we get another challenger for a proper Heavyweight title, i cant wait for this fight! He certainly wont be running, getting in close and out fast yes but not running. And Valeuvs power is not going to be a problem either, only issue will be him leaning on Haye with 24 stone! The ref will need to be strong. Haye TKO within 6.
Britain’s David Haye finally gets his crack at a world heavyweight title when he tackles Russian colossus Nikolai Valuev for the WBA version in Germany next Saturday (November 7). The fearless Londoner, linked to both Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko this year, squares up to a monster who stands an unbelievable 7ft and weighs an equally incredible 23 stone. In contrast the 6ft 3ins Haye has only recently moved up from cruiserweight and weighs no more than a blown-up 16 stone. This really is a case of David vs Goliath (as pictures of the two together bluntly underline) and to make things worse, Valuev is not just a freak: he does have boxing ability, including a thumping jab, inevitable strength and sold whiskers (never down as a pro). Plus. he is well-used to German rings. Nikolai is the ‘house’ fighter, a daunting 50-1 (34). Nevertheless, the champion did struggle in his last defence against a surprisingly sprightly Evander Holyfield last December in Zurich. Valuev was made to look pedestrian by 46-year-old Holyfield (yes, 46) and settled for a 12-round majority decision. Of course Holyfield is a former cruiserweight himself and this will give Haye and his team real hope, particularly as Valuev’s only loss came to short, stocky Hamburg southpaw Ruslan Chagaev on a 12-round decision in 2007 in Germany. However, both Chagaev and Holyfield boxed elusive, peek-a-boo type of fights, moving constantly and rarely duking it out with the Beast from the East, and I am not sure Haye is capable of adopting such tactics as he showed in his raucous heavyweight debut against New Yorker Monte Barrett, whom he tore into and floored five times before the fifth-round finish, although it took Valuev 11 rounds to finish Barrett. David loves a tear-up, is genuinely heavy handed, has smashed all but one of his 23 opponents and brags of becoming the first man to kayo Valuev in an early-round blitz. The latter is actually quite worrying because Valuev regularly does 12 rounds and possesses that solid beard (if you can reach it). Haye. By way of contrast, has done 12 rounds once (and his own chin is hardly Jake LaMotta-like). OK, Haye’s power, speed and sharpness are beyond question but will they be enough to budge such a giant? The real key to the fight’s outcome in my belief – a long-held belief – is that Haye simply needs more fights at heavyweight before tackling someone like Valuev, as opposed to just the Barrett scrap a year ago now. Still a baby for the division at 28, Haye has essentially wasted much of this year talking trash rather than sneaking in a couple more heavyweight looseners. Yes, Haye may be able to devastate the lumbering Russian quickly with his long, deadly accurate, lightning-fast blows but the sheer size difference will surely tell if Valuev gets through Haye’s fast start, the sheer difference in bulk. Valuev halts Haye around the eighth round.
imagine if valuev went on paul o'grady...? :think in that case, all there is to worry about is the judges! haye has possibly struck some sort of deal with king and sauerland though, so maybe that wont be a problem
As long as Haye isn`t taking the advice of Johnny Nelson like they said he was on tv last night, it should be a good fight.
Haye will have no choice but to have an awful lot of hugging and wresting. Valuev is way too big and heavy for Haye to shove him off, and Valuev is going to jab, jab, grab and lean. Haye will be exhausted from about 6 or 7th, and get stopped about 10. Hayes punch is unproven at heavyweight, but Valuevs chin is solid and Haye no way stops him.
I've got a horrible feeling he's going to get stopped in about 6 rounds. Off the floor several times exhausted. Will be gutted if i'm right, Come on David.
Don't agree, it will be a good fight. Certainly an entertaining fight if you are rooting for Haye which I imagine everybody in here will, because you know as well as I do his frailties. That always makes things interesting. He ain't going to be flurrying and then hugging like Holyfield did, and to a similar extent Ruiz. Haye will be trying to land bombs, he has to. There is also the chance Valuev will be in a different mindset for this fight, more like his earlier days where he wasn't quite so lethargic in the ring.
i hope haye wins but part of me thinks he will gas, and i cant see haye surviving if he tires real bad and valuez becomes confident enough to unload on hayes suspect chin and head without the fear of repurcussions
