Dominated one of the weakest 160 lb divisions to date, but dominated none the less. His accolades above the weight hold merit though. He fits in my top 40.
He is one the great middleweights, but certainly not the the best fighter of this time. Neither one were in their primes. Joe, should have came to America earlier, but no version of Hopkins would ever beat Calzaghe.
Top 6 definitely, but no higher. Monzon, Hagler, Burley, and Robinson all hold legit merits for being higher. Fought in much stiffer eras than Hopkins whose division was rather weak, arguably the weakest. Not to mention the best Middleweight he fought he lost to twice.
I think Hagler, Hopkins, Monzone, Robinson ... belong in a category all together when talking about great middleweights. You throw those guys along with maybe Benn, Calzaghe, Collins or Ottke ... and you have yourself a true super 6 tournament.
2000-2009 P4P Top 10 of the Decade (based on resume, ability & achievements) 1.Manny Pacquiao 2.Bernard Hopkins 3.Floyd Mayweather Jr 4.Shane Mosley 5.Marco Antonio Barrera 6.Juan Manuel Marquez 7.Erik Morales 8.Winky Wright 9.Joe Calzaghe 10.Jose Luis Castillo
I think that Calzaghe ranks higher than Jones and Hopkins ... I don't think that anyone from this era could be Calzaghe. It's weird because Calzaghe is aggressive, fast, very skilled, and determined ... never back down from anyone. (that should be on Calzaghe's tombstone)
