Kessler representative claims Kessler was hampered by damaged hand vs Calzaghe!

In the middle rounds of the fight Kessler looked like he did not know what to do, or how to do it. He looked confused and frightened. Kessler is not the most versatile guy around, but what he does, he does extremely well. In that fight his best weapon was damaged. I am convinced that effected him a great deal. I'd have to watch the fight again to be any more specific.

 

Kessler's hand was shot to bits.

Darren Barker barely sparred him when he went over as a result of it.

 

Yeah, I think a re-watch is in order for me too. I hadn't heard about this hand thing till that bit in the magazine this month.

Calzaghe taking his jab away through the middle of the fight did more harm than any existing injury.

No jab = no range = trouble for Kessler, against high class fighters. Against the likes of Haussler it most likely wouldn't matter much - then again they wouldn't be taking his jab away, he would simply be ignoring it and firing the straights and uppercuts.

His left hook really does suck though!

 

Kessler, like most of Calzaghe's victims (Hopkins included) got out-thought. He could have had four healthy hands- it wouldn't have mattered, because Calzaghe adapted to neutralize Kessler's strengths. Kessler, Hopkins, Jones..they all had the deer in the headlights look by the end of the fight.

 

Do you really think Hopkins was more frustrated than Calzaghe when the final bell went?? I disagree. I think Calzaghe looked like he had a torrid evening, hated every minute of it, and really really feared the worst at the bell - hence why he avoided a rematch.

Jones has had the deer in the headlights looked since Tarver first put his lights out 5 years ago. The man was shot for a long time before Joe got to him.

 

Hopkins looked completely befuddled from the middle of the fight onward. He was reduced to feigning low-blows. It was sad. And I say that as a big Hopkins fan. He's an ATG. It was a close, messy fight. Calzaghe was worried that he'd get robbed, because of the fight's messiness, and because it was his first visit to the US, Hopkins' house.

 

Yes, Calzaghe beat a hurt version of Kessler. Fought with a damaged hand.

 

I read that Kessler hurt it before the fight and had to give up a couple weeks of training, but still went ahead with the fight. The had to have surgery immediately after. As it was, I still had it very close on the cards, but clearly a Calzaghe win.

 

and Calzaghe had a hurt hand going into the Lacy fight.

Its actually a nice little ploy for Marley to bring this out, with the big fight coming up.

 

Well in this vid Kessler didn't seem to be holding back on the venom at 2:49 and 3:49 in particular anyway

I did hear he had hand trouble leading up to the fight.
