A couple of fights before the howard eastman fight bernards body wasnt the same anymore. His body was ready to grow but he kept himself at the middleweight limit so that he could get the record of title defenses but people dont look at that. Hops is old as hell however people who dislike him will never except that so when hops loses they can say hops was nothing and that the fighter who beat him is the ****.

Hopkins fought the wrong fight and i truly believe he recognized how to beat joe decisively once the fight was over. I believe hops was going to fight Calz like Roy fought Griffin in their second fight but with more defensive moves added to the game plan. Hops now knows that he can walk through joes shots and also knows being too defensive minded led to Calz getting the decision by activity. Joes truly believed the second fight would be a disaster so he backed out. What other reason could it be??? Hops wanted to come to calz home TOWN but joe still declined. Boxing fans are hurt by this but joes fans love to see that "O" by joes recond and thats all they need to proclaim Joes the best fighter of this Generation. UTTER BULL ****!:patsch

I see there's still no shortage of haters, with new ones popping out of the woodwork every day.

Hopkins was good (ATG) but he lost to Calzaghe in the US with aUS ref and three US judges, moving up to a new weight. He took four rounds to adjust to Hopkins. (I scored those two apiece) After that, he won every round, forcing Hopkins to draw on his acting skills to survive the fight. There was no need for a rematch, and Jones was a bigger fight.

Hops should be looking ahead to Roy next year. If he thinks it will be easy, he's mistaken.

You may be right, cuchulain, but I believe Jones is farther gone on the "past his prime" list.He couldn't even stop even more shot former welter Felix Trinidad at 170 lbs.Hopkins stopped a closer to his prime version at middleweight.

    All true.

Before and after the Calzaghe Jones fight, I indicated that I didn't put much significance in the result as I knew with near certainty that Joe would win and thaqt Roy was past prime.

I have always maintained that a prime Jones would almost certainly beat Calzaghe.

The Tito-Roy fight was even more meaningless, with Roy carrying Tito for more than half the bout.

    But Hopkins was another story.

Though old, Hopkins was nowhere near as much past it as Roy was.

He demonstrated this six months later when he shut out Pavlik.

Still, Roy still has his speed (hand, not foot) and his power, and I believe this will be enough to m make the fight with Hopkins very competitive.

Hopkins doesn't have the work rate or the power to make it as one-sided as Calzaghe did.

In fact, IMO, it's a pick'em fight, with avery slight edge going to Roy.

If you had put 'boxer' I may have given it some credance.

Can you honestly say that he turned up to 'fight' against Calzaghe?

Great Performance against Pavlik and a great boxer. But great fighter I think not.

    wow, recap.

Hopkins did win the first 3 rounds, but this ins't an amateur fight, it goes 12 rounds.

Calzaghe beat the hell out of him the other 9 rounds, out landing, out jabbing, out working and muscling him all over the shop.

I thought you said teh announcers believed hop won, now I have to have teh volume off so they don't influence me  round 10, Hopkins was bent over, bruised ribs, huffing and puffing, trying to stay in the fight, the 5 minute rest saved his career, because Joe would have KTFO and ended him if he didn't have that rest.

Calzaghe didn't land more punches? try telling that to compubox that shows he was more accurate and landed double Hopkins :deal

Calzaghe CLEARLY won this fight, you're clearly deluded and upset that big Joe bashed the hell out of a guy in his own backyard at his natrual weight, infront of his own fans, and reduced him to a quivering rolling mess on the canvas.:smooch
