No they won't! If you think Warren would even consider letting Khan get starched by Maidana you're nuts. He can keep him in England on PPV's for quite a while with the right opponents, and that's exactly what Warren will do. HBO cannot offer enough money to Khan for this level of fight, considering how much he would be risking.
You need at least six guys to make it real interesting. Four guys is too little. Juan Diaz, Bradley, and Campbell would make it very interesting as potential additions. It would be beyond amazing if you could get Valero to come up in weight to enter the fray, which shouldn't be that hard since he is aching for exposure. Hatton is probably too expensive a price tag to take part in it though. Valero-Maidana would probably be the most explosive fight if Valero were to take part. If Khan is too scared to get destroyed again. . .well he can be dispensed with. . .there is an abundance of talent around the in the lightweight and jr welterweight limits.
Do you have some kind of credible source to prove the guys in the Super 6 tournament are getting that kind of money? I personally highly doubt it!
Hasn't Khan been saying recently that he may leave England to fight and live in America because he's tired of all the criticism that he's been subjected to in the UK? Hasn't he also been saying that he's looking forward to making his US fight debut? I think if the money is right that Khan would jump all over this opportunity.
It's doesn't sound like a real tourney to me and so I'm not looking at it as HBO's version of Showtime's tourney or anything like that. I see 3 potential compelling fights on the horizon in the 140 lb division and imv that's all that matters. The winner will probably face the Bradley-Peterson winner down the road so at least there's a realistic prospect of decisive clarity in this talent crowed division.
He will probably make his debut in America vs Eric Morales. Watch, I bet you it's against a Pacquiao left-over. Roach already said something about that fight. That's a true story. I wouldn't risk him either, not against Maidana. Very big risk, and very little reward in that fight. It will not happen.
If there was a JWW tournament it would have to have Hatton, and Bradley. They are the two best at 140. Also, having three fights isn't exactly a tournament. I would watch it, of course, but I wouldn't call it a tourney. Just not enough fights or fighters.
There's a lot of logic in what you say and I happen to think that a fight against Morales probably will be strongly considered. If Khan however makes easy work of Salita, like I think he might, then maybe Roach and Khan's team reexamines the level of risk-reward that they'd be willing to subject themselves to.
I think this is a lame shortsighted response to answer Showtime's tourney. I agree that I'd be shocked if Kahn does it. No way will he take less money to fight here than in the UK. If I remember prior to the Barrera fight they tried to get him on an undercard here and due to the money available they decided against it. And the tournament has to include Bradley. Hatton is in a semi-retirement state, so, I don't mind him not being included, but, it has to include Bradley or at least the Bradley-Peterson winner. I don't even see why they would call this a "tournament". Just make a few good fights and see how it plays out. HBO has relationships with the big boys at 140/147: Mosley, Pac, Mayweather, Berto, PWill if he still can make 147, Hatton, Clottey, Cotto, Margacheato if he comes back, Kahn if they want. They could make a killer tournament at 140/147. They need to either GO BIG or go home. Triying to answer Showtime with these 4 guys at 140 will only make them look like a lame copycatter.
It's about time Khan started earning all that PPV money. I very much doubt Frank Warren would allow it to happen, though - too big a risk. It's a shame Bradley's missing. He would beat them all.
And I think if they want to do a tournament with a lesser known (i.e. cheaper) group of fighters I'd go with 135. JMM Juan Diaz Valero Soto Guerrero if he'll move up Katsidis Anthony Peterson Maybe Funeka, Dimarco or Moses as lesser known candidates Too bad Antillon and Linares just lost or they could have been good candidates
4 of the best fighters in the division facing each-other rather than avoiding each-other can only be a good thing, lame as the inspiration may be.
