Must be. Jock actually beat the world middleweight champ in the States in a non-title affair and was then refused a rematch. They did give him a shot, though - at world light-heavyweight king John Henry Lewis.
McAvoy was crippled with MS in later life but remains (surely) one of the few men in life to chin someone from a wheelchair. That was at a boxing show in the 1970s - his victim, a disrespectful fan. Now, that must have been something!

We can't talk about McAvoy without mentioning Len Harvey.

just been looking through Harvey's record and it turns out that the last McAvoy fight was for the "World" title BBBC version. So don't think we can include him.

He lost that second fight to Carl Taylor on a cut eye but beat him in the return on points.
He won the first Ben Ali fights comfortably in Newcastle on points. Ben Ali was rated in the world top 5 at the time. The second fight for the European title was in Spain and he lost on points in what all the British papers described as a robbery. The main problem in that fight was the referee who wouldn't let me dad fight, stopping the action every time dad got on top. He said it was like fighting 2 opponents at the same time.
This fight was at the bull ring in Barcelona and me dad swears that his dressing room was the bulls dressing room. The whole Barcelona thing was a bad experience with young fellas playing drums outside his hotel through the night and he was even spat at in the streets.
As it happens I'm married to a Barcelona girl now.
