HBO Light Welterweight Tournament in the works?

Very tasty format and line-up, safc:good. This sort of thing is absolutely great for boxing, IMO, and the added bonus of this proposed tourney is that it involves up-and-comers and the winner could also be a unified champion:yep. Considering those involved, I see a Khan-Ortiz final. I'll plump for a Khan win:happy:good.

 

Not sure Ortiz deserves his place in a tournament such as this.

Also - I would be very surprised if Warren put Khan in a tournament like this. He has a routine mandatory next, then will have the option of a voluntary, who will no doubt be feather fisted.

That said, it's about time he started earning that PPV money - Sky ought to put the pressure on, IMO.

 

50/50 matchups. i'll be impressed if hbo pull this off and Team Khan agrees to it.

Great idea, the winner would be a WBC/WBA titleholder and the match ups could be interesting. I'll be amazed if Warren agrees to this though.

 

What about Bradley??
Without his inclusion it would be impossible to bill the tournement winner as the best.

Not moaning tho as at least it would guarantee 3 very good match ups.

 

The major difference between this and the Super 6 is that the winner of the Super 6 will be the number 1 in there division. The winner of this will be number 3 lol

It would make sense for Khan. He does not have a voluntary after Khan he must meet Maidana next, which is a tough fight. Alexander or Ortiz are very winnable fights for Khan.

How about adding the winner of Bradley vs Peterson and Diaz vs Mallignaggi into the mix.

 

why would warren not agree. he will be getting big money from HBO, and Sky Box Office.

I imagine he thinking would be Maidana in UK and then US debut for the final. great platform for Khan in the US plus he can take the likes of Mitchell, Clev and Brook out there.

 

Without Bradley there is no point, plus some would still argue that Hatton is number one until beaten by someone other than the p4p number ones.

 

If it's going to be a 4 man round robin then Bradley should be there in place of Ortiz, the only reason it won't happen is because Ortiz is with Golden Boy who have HBO in their pocket.

Their record this year has been great though...... better than the shambles of trying to get Mosley vs Mayorga on PPV last year :-(

They were going to put Mosley vs Mayorga on PPV, paired with Berto vs Forbes.

It was a late decision to pull the plug and put it on regular TV, most likely due to lack of interest, as Mosley had had nearly a year off, and Mayorga was hardly relevant, having been whooped by DLH two years previous and had only fought a fat Vargas in the meantime.

 

Add Hatton and Bradley to the mix, and I'm sold!

Otherwise, it sounds decent, and is better than nothing.

 

They should make it 8 fighters. Throw in Holt, Torres, Bradley and Campbell, maybe even try getting Marquez involved.
