Watching these highlights, it does indeed kill. Roy Jones remains the standout for me. To combine handspeed, agility, punching power and speed of foot in this way is unfair to the opponent.
Camacho never had any power. He learned to sit down pretty well on his combos, but it still wasnt as effective as Leonard. Taylor on the other hand always seemed to be throwing his combos on the balls of his feet, which depleted his power. Leonard to me wins this competition. Its not just about pure speed, the technique and natural punching power is what seals the deal for Leonard.
I think it's also a matter of style that makes Camacho and Taylor look even faster than other quick fighters.Flurrying and obverwhelming you with volume was a huge part of their style, but there has been a good number of fighters that were as good for single shots and shorter combinations.
Great video right there. My favourite was Ray Leonard. I thought Roys was good but could of been done better having seen his fights. Camacho and Taylor looked astonishingly quick, although we know those were more for show than the practicality of Roy and SRR application.
Camacho may edge Taylor by a bit, though Howard Davis Jr. may be the fastest fighter I have ever seen in the last 30 years or so.
Go to the 32 second mark of this clip. I dont think Ive ever seen anything faster in boxing. :hey [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRt8LHSB7wM&feature=related[/ame]
Taylor has a big element of Calaslappyness to his punches and wrist flicking to his punches and they're choreographed/telegrahed so easier to slip. Leonard and Camacho throw proper punches, Jones throws fast haymakers Bottom line beign the fastest wrist flicking flurryer doesnt make you the fastest boxer
Those two punches had quite a bit behind them as well. Those are nothing like those Leonard flurries you seen at the Olympics in the top video. Those type of punches are designed to land and look good aka scoring punches that Leonard was letting go with. Leonard couldn't throw the ones Jones did with that kinda weight behind them. Ive said it before, and I'll say it again...........Jones is the fastest fighter ever with his hands.
I agree. Kind of fitting how the commentating team was talking about how fast he was before he landed that combo. Amazing stuff. Ive seen Jones shoe shine too, just as fast as Leonard, but as you said, Ive never seen someone land something that fast with that much power behind it.
