Pea, you're one of the better posters on this site. Most of everything you post is spot on IMO. However, Floyd doesn't throw nearly enough to counter Paul to no end. I guarentee Floyd's only lead would be a jab to the body (pfft). Paul will NOT tire out. Floyd's only chance would be to get off first then haul ass but we all know he will do no such thing with Williams. There is a reason why he will NOT fight PW, he's smart and knows his O would go. As you said, his skills are a bit over-rated and his attitude to be great isn't there. Why take that chance?
Paul Williams DOES have skills and he appears to be a guy that keeps improving, and Floyd DOES lack firepower, so that fight is a fight Floyd could lose. But I don't know if Williams could make 147. At 154, I would go with Williams. Floyd could barely get passed ODLH at 154, not that ODLH is a bad figher, but that was an old version of a good fighter. So Paul who's taken hits from middleweights and spars with heavyweights and wasn't afraid to fight Pavlik stands a pretty good chance because it's unlikely that Floyd will take the risks necessary to get inside of his long arms and counter him. Williams isn't Corrales that stands straight up and walks foward without throwing a jab, trying to land haymakers. It would be a hard fight for Floyd.
Floyd's shoulder roll defense would not work against a guy punching down at him like Williams would. Also, Williams can match speed with Floyd, has more firepower than Floyd, and is harder to hit than anyone Floyd has ever fought. Williams is the man to beat to him, but this fight will NEVER happen. Floyd is happy picking on former fly weights.
Margarito. That's why floyd ducked him for years, and retired when it became obvious he was ducking him. Two weeks after Margarito was banned from boxing, Floyd returned!
So was Shane, but cotto beat Shane, So was Judah, Cotto beat Judah, so was Quintana, Cotto beat Quintana, So is Pac...We'll see the outcome there on the 14th. Point is this is why the actually have the fights and not just appoint people champion based off their "power rankings". Floyd is the most physically gifted and skilled fighter in the world. Unfortunately he is lacking in the intangibles department, namely HEART. How will the much more skilled fighter react when he gets hurt, or even cut. What does he do if he gets into a rough rugged brawl? What does he do if he's dropped?? All of these factors in the fight have nothing to do with physical ability, but each is a possibilty. I can read the responses already..."won't happen" "Hater"...point remains the same...Thats why they fight the fights.
we don't really need to see him fight any more fighters, he already lost his 0 to RA the rugged man, in a brutally one sided verbal beatdown.
