Freddie Roach: "The Klitschko Brothers Don't Take Risks."

I just find it ridiculous that its a heavyweight thing to look for knockouts all the time...

Why is it OK for guys to look good boxing at lower levels but the heavies need to focus on KOs ?

If we appreciate the boxing skills of other guys that don't necessarily takes risks fighting like Hopkins, Mayweather, Dirrel, Bute, Dawson, etc., then we should equally appreciate the boxing skills of the Klits for such big guys, especially when they end up knocking out their opponents anyways !

There's no denying Wlad fights way too cautious at times. He's shown repeatably that he's too scared to engage. That's not so much the case with Vitali-- but c'mon, they are boring fighters. It's a terrible/boring divison as well, so what do you expect. Until an exciting fighter comes along, we're not gonna have any excitement in the HW division. Maybe Haye is that guy, I dunno, but at least he's brought some interest back into the division.

 

how can Haye change that?.... you just said "the division is not good", yet if Haye wins the division is better?... HOW?... all the other guys are the same.

the only thing Haye has brought to the division is a mouth. 1 fight in 18 months is ****. Haye might have givin the HW division a boost on ESB and to the "hardcore" boxing fan...but the casual fans have no idea about Haye:deal

It takes to fighters to make a good fight

 

This is a sport where self defense pays dividence every time out, and I am sure Freddy Roach can appreciate that. And as far as risks goes, both Wladimir and Vitali can only fight whats in front of them, and there just so happens to be no other solidified all time great in their era, so they're just out of luck.

Still, the division is deeper than people give it credit for, and both Wlad and Vitali are doing a mighty fine job representing the sport as a whole. This is boxing, if you want to see unskilled fighters wailing away for all their marbles in order to end the night short, go watch some UFC.

 

... Its hard ti say that he comes to fight, he had 2 fights in the latest two years (with two gatekeepers) and blew out two title fights with Klitchkos who were ready to take a risk and fight him.

 

They are taking turns ktfo top contenders in their division. Wtf is roach talking about.

 

They're pretty boring and the division is terrible yes.

Its easy to praise Haye, the man had several shots at the titles against both Wladimir and Vitali and guess what, he was nowhere to be seen. Haye is a solidified coward, he took a good hard look into the eyes of both Wladimir and Vitali and opted to fight the least skilled champion around instead.

Haye does not want no part of either Klitschko, he's happy as long as he gets air time on British tv, so that he can feed his cure for insomnia to so called fans of the sport.:roll:

 

I can understand this point! Boxing is a tough game.
BUT and heres the BUT, when youre as tall and powerful as Wlad is fighting much smaller guys who may be skilled but lack power. You would expect the champ to take them out in style.
Ibragimov, chagaev being prime examples. After 2 rounds most people could see they did not have the speed/movement to get inside or the power to trouble wlad. But yet he still decided not to go for the jugular and at least throw his money punch more than once in an attack.

Someone else recently said "oh but lewis never knocked out tua. bla bla bla"
The difference there was that lewis knew Tua had knockout power and with one shot on the button could KO him. With the aformetnioned fighters they neither had the power or the skill to ko him.
If Wlad went for the finnish on these so called challengers sooner in the fight he would get far more props/fans.

 

You twisted around everything I said. I never said the "division is good" - it sucks, regardless if Haye is in it or not - I'm just saying that he's at least brought some INTEREST back. That's all. I'm not a Haye fan at all either.

 

I can see your point. And I can agree with you to some extent, but historically speaking, the most dominant, exciting heavyweight champions have had their fair share of unexciting nights. Now it is true that Wladimir had a ridiculous connect percentage against Ibragimov and that he could of stepped the metal to the pedal a bit more frequent in that specific fight. But it was not as though Ibragimov was looking to take the fight to him, so Wlad's not the only man to blame for that fight.
Mike Tyson had his fight with a lesser stellar opponent in Mitch Green and failed to deliver, solely on the fact that Green was looking to survive, much like Ibragimov looked as though he was content on surviving from the second round on.

Still, you've got a point, and I am sure Wladimir wants to provide us fans with exciting bouts, and he does! Every fighter wether it be Ali, Tyson, Foreman or Sonny Liston have off nights.:good
