How many Boxing Champions had initially retired undefeated? Whether or not if they had an ill advised comeback.
your obvious ones are Marciano, Calzaghe, Ricardo Lopez, Sven Ottke, Floyd Mayweather and James J Jeffries
As near as I can determine, Bantamweight Champion Jimmy Carruthers may have been the first to retire with an unblemished record, bowing out at 19 (11)-0-0 in 1954.
atschDamn. I'd completely forgotten about McAuliffe, despite actually mentioning him in one of my earliest posts from 2007. Touche!:dead (Institutionalize me NOW! I'm really losing it.)
I learnt a bit after debating with McGrain ,and Boilermaker,McAuliffe was better than I at first thought. But then that's what this forum's about isnt it?
