nice video He was a cocky mofo but he had that one punch KO. That KO of augie sanchez was brutal. I would have love to see him fight a couple of more years after the barrera fight. Against morales-marquez and pacquiao who was coming up around that time.

 

Always wondered how good he could have been.
He was what? 27 when he fought Barerra?
He came back one year later,fought the european champ Calvo and won in a shut out and just retired afterwards. He probably could have become a better fighter.He could have easily improved.

As for this notion that Barerra destroyed him. It actually isnt true. Barrera won,no doubts about that,but it wasnt teh shut out some people like to portray.It was about 8 rounds to 4. He wasnt knocked down either. So it was hardly some sort of savage beat down some people like to portray it as.

I heard him in an interview recently say that his hands couldnt stand up to the rigors of the pro game.

He said he used to have to receive cortozone injections before each fight,because his hands were giving him so much trouble.
Thats the reason he gave for never coming back

 

Well, where I am from the "average" person can probably not name a single active boxer.
And nobody knows who "Prince Naseem" is.

But go figure....Hamed vs Barrera was CRAZY. Bar was PACKED to over-capacity - it was like a Tyson fight. The atmosphere was electric.
Only thing comes close since was Mayweather-De La Hoya.

 

Prince Naseem Hamed is pretty well known even to this day. A lot of casualites remember him. He did a great job of making himself a big fighter, regardless of weight class.

Barrera gave it to him..but let's not put down the impact Naz had on the business.

The prince was known world wide in the boxing world. He was MR PPV who brought the glitz and glamour to the lower weight divisions. He was the reason people started paying to see fights at the lower weight classes.:bbb

 

I'll say this about Naz, he delivered knock outs and real exciting fights along with all that showboating and razzmatazz. He backed up all that crazy stuff he did in his ring entrance with some real hard-hitting and proper brutal fighting.
With guys like Chris Eubank and even as talented a guy like Hector Camacho, you'd often get all the glam and glitter followed by an absolute stinker dull fight.

On a european scale Naseem was very well known to sports fans, whereas only boxing interested people would know who for example de la Hoya was. Anyone would know the prince although not many people had seen him box.

 

He is well known in the UK. He's the reason I got into boxing probably when I was about 14,
