Right but I'm assuming that Douglas shows up with the same focus that he did the night he fought Tyson and if that's the case I don't think you can 100% go with Tyson. Again we're jsut exchaning opinions here, it's not like we can ever truly know for sure.

 

It ceratainly is. Though Tyson could of melted like Lewis did twice, but he stood in there and took Busters best and kept fighting till the end. Like Busters trainer said after the fight. He thought after Buster caught him with that vicious uppercut he was waiting for Tysons head to fly into the stands. One could talk all the **** they want about Tyson, but even on his worst days (Holyfield, Buster, Lewis) he stood in there and took his ass kickings like a man.

 

I doubt Buster would show up the same way for the rematch. Everything just fell into place for him that night. Tyson was not all there mentally and physically. Buster was there mentally and physically, best shape of his life, he was fighting for his mother, the stars just alligned for him that night.

The same could be said for McCall and Rahman. Though Steward was a big help for McCall, and explained to him that Lewis was wide open for that counter right hand. He told him in the corner the round before to throw it, and it happend.

 

Of Course he was undertrained. He was knocked down in a sparring session prior to the fight, and during the fight showed nothing like he usually did. No great speed, no jab, no combination punching, no head momement....not the usual Tyson at all

Douglas knocked out Tyson. Every fighter that loses has some story explaining why he lost and how it was the worst version of him and if...

That ref was crooked. Gave a very slow count for buster and not only was mike up at 10 it was recorded to last 8 seconds. Whilst buster had 16 seconds to get up. Don ****ing King.

 

I don't think Douglas had his number, it's not like Douglas proved he had more skills. All Douglas did was keep throwing from start to finish, just kept the activity up and Mike was FAR too easy to hit in that fight. He was being nailed with major bombs from round one and was extremely inactive in there. Tyson would be far more active.

I know some will say "Well, what Douglas did forced him to be inactive", I disagree. Douglas didn't do anything special, he kept throwing and throwing basic punches at a target that didn't care to move his head, there was no superiority in skills that night. Guys like Biggs, Thomas, Holmes, Ruddock x2, Tucker, Smith and others gave all they had but Tyson wasn't going in wide open against those. Douglas/Tyson was supposed to happen way earlier, Douglas losing to Tucker is what ruined it.

 

The moment he split with Rooney ; he was undertrained.

 

OK, lets put this in perspective. Would a 21 year old Mike Tyson have lost to Buster?

Would the Tyson the fought Donovan Ruddock, Mitch Green or Trevor Berbick have lost to Buster Douglas - the answer is clearly No.

Fact is, Tyson was done from 1998 -anyone who watches his fights closely can see this.

A prime Tyson would never have lost to Douglas in a million years - he was undertrained, overconfident and unfocused going into that fight - go watch his fights to see the truth about what really led to Tyson's downfall.

 

Tyson fought a bad fight, just look at how he fought Bruno, he was no longer the same fighter(mentally) but it was still enough to beat Bruno.

However, Douglas kicked his ass, and the KO, was an awesome KO.

 

Tyson was hardley out the news by then, falling out of nightclubs and crashing cars. It was just a matter of time, with his lifestyle, before it all came crashing down.... people expected it to last a bit longer than it did though.

 

exactly. tyson was about fall of the edge sooner or later and douglas came at the perfect time, other wise, tyson was suppose to beat a guy like douglas.
