Is cotto leaving top rank after his contract runs out sometime this winter? I remember that cotto wasn't happy about Bob Arum defending Margarito over the hand wraps and cotto said they're spliting up after this year. But now i've read on here that Bob Arum is already planning a fight for cotto in NYC after the pacquaio match. so what's really going on? :huh
Cotto extended his contract until 2011. He says he will retire once the extension is over. It was one of the many things discussed during the negotiations for the Pacquiao fight. I dont know what Arum guaranteed to hi but it must have been good to stay at top rank cus he wanted to leave.
Arum guaranteed Cotto the fight with Pacquiao, so Cotto stayed. Arum is a smart man, when he has a huge fighter he'll bait other fighters with the prospect of getting a shot at them.

Thats what he said. He will retire at the end of 2011. Personally i dont think he will but he has mentioned many times that he doesnt want to fight in his 30's.
I think it should be conditional based on how he looks at that time ...if is not at his best, it may be in his best interest.

true. Honestly now that i think about it i think he might keep true to his word. I dont see Cotto going up in weight so his goals are probably taking on the best at 147 lets say he beats manny he will probably fight Floyd and rematch Shane and Possibly Margarito. After those fights it should be around 2011 so it will be right timing.
Why in the hell would they do that? Floyd's a whinny ***** and Cotto's given his all. Why o erth would people jump on Cotto?
And he's already invested his money well and has all he needs to retire on already. So why the hell wouldn't he. He's a least earned it by fighting the best.
the same reason so many other fighters retired well into their late 30s early 40s ... legacy, love for the sport, etc.
